Not coal, Obaminator took care of coal fired power.

Not nuclear, they haven't OK'd one in years.
Probably because they kept building them on fault lines.

Not Hydro Power.

The greenies don't like them because they say when they build them it is a huge carbon foot print.......due to the machinery and steel used, not to mention that dirty concrete.

I would like to visit some of these environmentalists at their home to make sure that:

1) Has no wood in it.

2) no glass

3) no carpet.

4) Has no plastic or vinyl.

5) Is only powered by human farts.

6) and finally, that they better be not flying in jets or driving
cars to get anywhere.

What manufacturing has no carbon foot print?
Tom

Got me to thinking...in the mid 70's I knew a couple who were living mostly off the grid in rural western West Virginia. We were friends for a time, but I moved away and lost touch. They were both easterners by birth and experience, from middle class homes and college educated. What drove them to the edge, I don't remember, but it was the time to do it.

They owned a challenging piece of land, about 20AC, nearly a whole hollow ("holler") with a creek running down the middle of it. I don't think the creek water was potable, but the well produced good tasting water. The one thing they got that made life good was the gas well. There was a modest looking structure on the land sucking natural gas from the earth. The purchase included 1/8 of the gas rights and permission to tap the well before the gas went into the meter. It meant they actually did get free natural gas which they used for whatever they could. The house was always warm in the winter, but it did not have running water (maybe that came later.) The outhouse (consequence of no running water, no sewage) had plenty of gas heat, too. Even if you had to go out there in the cold, you didn't need to freeze your buns off. The house was built from lumber they cut on the land and had milled locally. It was an engaging but simple post and beam building.

With the exceptions noted, these were really the "greenest" people I ever knew. They were green before it was a word!

I remember he was going on about "clean coal" first prez campaign. Oh yeah and a free pony for everyone! Clean coal - bologna. Would have been more believable if he'd kept it zipped on that one.

A vegetarian diet will sure-fire guarantee lots of that. :P ;) Makes a house smell "lived in." Take it from - "An Old Fart At Play"

The North Dakota Lignite coal keeps rolling through Fargo on it's way east so coal mining is full swing around here.

Oil is being pumped like crazy. But natural gas is burning not being tapped which really pisses me off since the rates have doubled.

Suppose to be in the low 30's next week great because we almost blew away last night, frigging high winds.

Burr, man I love living in paradise.

I'm to gimpy to be able to live off the grid but always think about it.

Not cold so much as 5PM yesterday I thought I was done after clearing @ 13-14" of snow. Conked out early and up early today 4:30 AM, and it looked like nothing had been done. ANOTHER foot plus overnight and snowballs still falling from the sky, hitting hard enough to hear them land. Now it's mid-30's and that snow is getting dense. Perfect for making a snowman. I'm sure it's much the same anywhere in eastern NY and New England. Ow - shovel 'til it hurts.

Man you guys are getting hammered this winter.

Be careful of the heart attack shovel.

We got a total of around 12" but it was gone after about four days.

You wait, they will declare a drought this Summer and ration water.

Yep, getting very old. We are supposed to get 4 to 6 inches on this side of the lake.
