Thank you so much. Let's keep on talking building amps here!
For attenuation...you might wanna try to use a 50K rev log pot in series with the phase inverter's 470 ohms or so cathode resistor to starve the PI current. I know it'll sound different compared to a brake but it is a cheap and fast way to save a marriage!
I got this one from a Marshall oriented forum BTW. Some call it 'Dampening'. It does not lower the volume all the way to bedroom levels but it works cool. Also nice to have in a band!

Yep! On the Metroamp forum, where I've discovered and described it a while ago. The 'dampening' concerning part of this mega-thread starts on page #17, so read from here:
Or as one old Kentucky Hillbilly (I mean that in the kindest manner since I AM one) said, "Never get into a pissin' contest with a skunk " For the skunks, it's alway competition rather than collegiality

Agree wholeheartedly. Sorry I even made the mention.
Sorry, fellas; I'm wasn't trying to start anything bad over here. In fact, I like this place and 18watt because the folks on both forums exhibit quite a bit of class, especially when it comes to taking the high road when it comes to arguments/mudslinging. (hence, my non-membership at TGP)I'd like to think I try to do my part, as well. However, I'd still like to know who NOT to do business with, being that I'm getting my feet wet in this business, too. Anybody here is free to send me a PM.
Again, I apologize if it seemed like I was trying to instigate anything over here.

I tried this in a homebrew marshall jubilee amp and while it does the job, it changes the tone quite a bit IMO. Makes things darker (hint hint to those who thinks their TW is too bright, it darken up in a NICE way).
I prefer the "bootstrapped" MV from KoC's book. Basically, you replace the 1M resistor on the input of the PI by a 1M pot. The ground of the pot goes at the 470 ohm, 10K, 1M point. The wiper to the screen of the input side of the PI and the "top" lug to the preamp out. Not sure how well this one would work in the TW-like amp though...
I wonder if using sort of a bright cap on the 50K pot "dampening" scheme would work?
