Opinions of half power switch
Hello everybody, I am new to the forum and am about to begin my first Dumble build. I think I am going to do a 100w low plate classic tone stack. I guess that is a #124 in it's original state. I play Fender guitars and I think a more Fenderish tone stack will be what I want. I just received one of those nice CE Pedals chassis and I notice it does not have a spot for the half power switch. I also notice that some of the other chassis do not have them either. I guess I could drill a spot for one but I don't think I will try to squeeze it between the stand by switch and speaker jack. I looked at a lot of pictures of 100w Dumbles and they all seem to have it, so is it safe to assume that builders just don't like them that much?
Re: Opinions of half power switch
I have played a half dozen amps with half-power switches, the ones that just ground two of the power tubes. Did not find it useful at all.
I build and repair tube amps. http://amps.monkeymatic.com
Re: Opinions of half power switch
They're a good selling feature if you end up eventually selling the amp. I never use half power on a Dumble because the Master works so well. But, as a marketing tool, a half power switch is the bomb.

OK, I think I can stop obsessing about the half power switch and move on to what color the resistors are going to be.

Resistors sound better if you seal them in a ziploc bag with angel hair for at least 48hrs.talbany wrote:Resistor colors that sound best

Re: Opinions of half power switch
It is a skinnier and more saturated tone that works well in live situations. Nice to have on an ODS or Overdrive Reverb. A well built ODS is a huge sounding amp, and can sometimes be too big in the mix. Making it skinnier is not always a bad thing.
