Ripper inspired build

Post by Aaron »

Just finished this. A friend gave me an old solid state amp for parts, the only thing I kept was the chassis. So the parts draw was salvaged again and came out with this. 2 seperate channels, clean and second based on the ripper channel. Have a listen.

Cheers,
Aaron

What did you use for a schematic? Was it something like a 100w version of the draft idea? How close to this was it?

@Jeff - Schematic is close. The two channels are seperate to each other and have one tonestack each. I've done a schematic, just need to change a couple of things to match my build. At the moment I'm running some big bottle '50's Sylvania 6L6's, still sorting out the pre's. Although must say, the amp suits humbuckers over single coils. When I first plugged in I used my strat and thought "nice, but needs some work". Plugged in my Les Paul and it was Kapow!!!!

@Eric - I wish I could sleep when I build! I'm to impatient. How's your SSS build going?

Cheers,
Aaron

The filtering on the power supply on all nodes is really high on this one, isn't it a bit weird ?

Yes, quite weird. Drawing error. Probably should be 47uf filter caps instead of 220uf.

Finished for now. If anything, I'll change the OD mid pot to an audio taper.
Strat through the overdrive stills sounds terrible! I don't think its a single coil issue, more of an output issue. Here's a clip with a tele.

Aaron, do you have the cap on the Od level pot? If so what happens if you remove it?

I had wired a 47pf in there first but removed it. Sounded to harsh for me.

Schematic

Was fixing up the schematic and decided to make it all switchable. So it could be like a 3 channel amp. I haven't tried it like this, it's late, I'm tired.......

Goodnight,
Aaron
