Toneslut Transfomer question ... help!

Post by gnugear »

I've got an option for 6500 or 5200 for the primary on the OT. Which should I use (or what was used on Francesca).

I've also got a question about the PT. There's a TON of wires ... which option should I use??

Well, what are you trying to build? If you are building an express, use the 6k6 taps on the OT, unless you want to experiment with a different load.

On the PT, use the higher of the two voltages available - again, if you are building an express.. You can just trim and cap or tape off the 5V taps if you are not using a tube recto, and you can trim and cap/tape off the extra HV taps. Just be sure to keep them seperated and insulated from everything.

You can also email Chris (moose/ aka toneslut) for suggestions or advice. He loves to chat about amps and building.

Doc's got it.

One thing to remember, though, if you're running 6V6 at double load (8 ohms on the 4 ohm tap) you're at about 10K with the 5200 tap. Excellent range for 6v6 (most Deluxes are in the 8K primary range). That's the main reason I'd consider 5200 on the primary.

However, 6600 is common, it's been measured in some real expresses, and sounds great. I'd call it safest if you're going to use big-bottle tubes (EL34, kt66, 6L6, etc)

What KF said is that the Heyboer OT with the 5K2 Primary was designed specifically for Les Paul and Junior players who get too much Mud on the neck PU with the 6K6.
