mythical matchless transformers

Post by yurka »

Whats the deal with matchless transformers? Seems like you have a few companies out there that claim they are the real deal. Im looking for something good quality, and below the MM price range.

TDS is no where to be found. Website seems to have been down for a while.

The Magnetic Components set is $231 http://www.triodestore.com/ac30bundle.html
I have a set but haven't tried them yet.

I would love to try one of the Matchless OP trans in one of my amps.

Iv been through a few sets of MC trannies, good quality and very consistent. I wonder how much of a difference there is between the AC30 and DC30 xformers. I also keep reading that the magic is in the trannies for these amps.

I've heard that also. I read an old interview where he sacrificed many old transformers and copied the OP trans from his favorite AC30.

I have a couple MM's that I bought used and 2 Hammond Vintage AC30 replacements that I like quit a bit. I need to try the MC sometime but I have too many projects going.

I've been trying to track down TDS for some time, and although I thought I saw them active on ebay, I can't get any replies by email. I have a set of their transformers here in line for an upcoming build, but I'd love to hear people's experience with the MC iron. I love MC's stuff -
