Not really a valid comparison, the 409 vs 421 SD.
I was never impressed by the 409.
Had a couple friends that had them, one in a very good condition 58 Belair.
I knew of a guy that had a 69 GTO with the 400 big block.
He was undefeated on the gut for a couple years.
The big block that impressed me was, a friend that had a 1971 Chevy 402cu in a 64 chevelle.
It was a 396 bored .030" over to 402 at the factory.

That thing had so much torque it was scary.
Another friend had a 1971 Chevelle with a 454 crate motor in it.
Man could that thing smoke the tires.
But, I have to admit I never rode in a HEMI equipped car.
I was always a small block Chevy guy but I can be impressed by any make car that hauls ass.

Yes, in some ways no it isn't. The 421 Pontiac has the 4.00 stroke which having the added torque certainly makes up for some of the weight in all those heavy vehicles. The 409 is scary in a lighter 4 speed vehicle like 61 Bel Air.Structo wrote:Not really a valid comparison, the 409 vs 421 SD.

FWIW, there is no such thing as a big or small block Pontiac engine.
My "big" small block has 4.200 bore and 4.125 stroke, 16.3 CR

Just wanted to mention how nicely this POS thread has turned out due to hijacking.

But what this thread is sadly lacking are some "average" YouTube videos of bored-out big block muscle cars screaming down the quarter-mile.

I always liked those 327s, they seem to work good.

To Peavey's credit ..... if you run into the back of a Bandit, it won't explode. Can't say that about a Pinto.crbowman wrote:I had a 75 Pinto.
