Another TW demo video

Post by Colossal »

I wish Glenn was demoing these amps, but it's cool to see/hear other Trainwrecks.

Thanks, I thought I was the only one. Thumb and middle? I can lose the index and still play?

He said in the second video he had a stroke and that is how he has to hold the pick.

Why don't we get a real trainwreck demos only sticky?Of course Glens would be at the top of the list

Then maybe one for clones

I would say the truth is in the difference between a professional recording and the absence of one. Glen is a fantastic player and records his Trainwrecks professionally. He is of course setting the bar. Most clone amps presented here are recorded in a very primitive fashion, straight to a computer mic, through a cell phone, by a hobbyist, etc. and are hardly representative of their actual tone. I think it's not really fair to make any sort of inference one way or another in the absence of a professional recording. I'll wager some of the clones built by guys here sound very, every good. Most of the non-sequitur blather about clone TW amps is completely out of context. Airbloom Bill simply made up his mind that a clone amp could not stack up to one of The originals and based his opinion solely on marginal/inferior recordings. That is just nonsense. To put this idiotic speculation to rest once and for all, get all the clones and some originals in the same room, fly us all out there, and let's get it done with. A compressed .mp3 posted by a builder in the spirit of sharing his creation with fellow enthusiasts online does not make a basis for wholesale generalization that clones do not contend.

The absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.

I think it's a good idea to have a sticky with original amp clips and one with clones. But I also agree that a good player and a good engineer can make the dismal sound good. So where does this leave us?

My honest opinion with the video of Daisy with a 1962 strat is that you played it with a compressor in front and killed the amp's touch responsiveness. Normally a "compressor" compresses the bandwith and makes the loud notes (attack) sound more quiet and the quiet notes sound louder. Country players use it so all notes they play with the clean amp can sound at the same volume(even). I used to use it when I played wah to smooth the high attack of the pedal. So the trainwreck amps(all of them) are about using your guitar volume and/or right hand attack to make it cleaner and dirtier or louder and quiet and the compressor pedal mission is to neutralize those dynamics.

That is what I think. No personal attacks, nothing else!!
