10PS vs 6PS

Post by BIG Dave »

I located a small number of NOS 10PS caps (1,000 volts) for my upcoming Express build. Is there any reason the 10PS caps won't perform as well a 6PS caps in an Express build? I'm thinking not, however I wanted to check with the experts. Thank you.

A couple chaps over at the Les Paul Forum responded that the only concern would be space limitations of the larger 10PS caps. I found this ebay auction offering .022 10PS caps. Not affiliated with seller. Just passing it on...

Thank you. I'm going to go ahead and build my Express with whatever parts I can find for now. If and when correct parts become available in the future, I'll go ahead and swap them out. Got to start somewhere!

I'll throw this out there for the Sprague PS series caps, you really have to look at the spec sheets because for certain values, the material compositions are different at the 1000V and 1600V ratings than the 600V.

From the data sheet:

"Ratings 200 volts through 1000 volts are polyester film with extended foil. Ratings 1600 volts and 2000 volts are series wound polypropylene film with extended foil and a metalized floating common foil which provides self-healing characteristics."

Looks like the 600 volt and 1000 volt series are both polyester. Is there something else I'm missing?
