Maybe so, but I can't believe it has much to do with a change in line voltage of less than 1%...

Capacitors are probably the most sensitive components when it comes to temperature effects, and they can certainly affect tone quality.

Since I've been trying to sort out the voltages in my ODS build over the past few days, I've been regularly measuring the wall voltages. Lowest measurement = 217v, highest= 233v. Five years ago, when I first installed the PT (is this some sort of record for slowest build?), I measured the wall voltage once (at 235v) and therefore hooked up the 240v primary. I didn't get around to really tweaking the dropping string until this week, and noticed how low the B+ was.

I've connected the 230v primary now, but I'm not happy with that either. It seems that the wall voltage is only above 225v or so for a few hours a day. The differences I'm seeing on the V1 plates, for example, are just way too big. I don't really want to, but it feels like I'm forced to install a 220v/230v switch on my amp; which will also mean that I'll be forced to check the wall voltage every time I play it. Alternatively, I'll have to keep my eye on the clock (the wall voltage always dips below 220v between ~17:00 and ~21:00).

The easy way around that is a limiting conditioner and a variac. No watching the clock and it works with any amp.

Not as cheap as watching a clock, maybe.

I've really been wondering what would be involved in building or modifying an existing fully regulated inverter for amp use. The wall voltage fluctuations seem really big these days and that would be the way to get 240V all the time every time.
