P-90s (Gibson R6) + Ceriatone Express = bliss

Post by larseko »

I just bought myself a second hand Gibson Goldtop Les Paul 1956 Reissue loaded with P-90s, and just have to say that it feels like it was made for my trainwreck. It's absolutely stunning, I just can't stop playing :o

Especially the neck pickup, with the tone turned low, growls merrily, tones sustains for days when soloing, and just give me the goose bumps. I could play one tone and enjoy the complexity and crunch of it for days. And this is both with master volume rolled down a bit and with a weber mass. I have the amp driving a 2x12" Framus cab in our bedroom in an apartment building, so I have to keep it low. Really hard when getting these kinds of tone, though.

Just wanted to get this out somewhere, P90s + Trainwreck = totally awesome, if somebody ever doubted that.

Unfortunately, I'm such a crappy player (I don't "deserve" the equipment I got at all), but I will try to make some clips at some stage.

I got the impression somewhere that Ken liked P-90 Gibsons with the Wrecks quite a bit.

I also love P90's with my Express, but then again, I love P90's with every decent amp I have tried.

Right, I think I might have read something along those lines too.

I haven't tried it with any other decent amps, but itt even makes a cheap Fender solid state amp sound good (with loads of gain, even!).

When I finally get a working Liverpool clone  I'm really looking forward to trying out my Loper Tele with Fralin P90s. It sounds good with ordinary amps, so this should be something special... :D

Oh, I'd be very interested in clips with that setup. In a distant future I might check out a couple of Fralins in the Gibby.
