I bought mini electric guitars for 6 of my grandkids. So far...
1 has a real interest & 1 is a natural drummer - great timing.
Small acoustics are a bear on your fingers - regardless of age.
Small electrics don't intonate - don't know about the expensive ones.
I thought about piano lessons for them, but they think of it like class.
A worthwhile endeavor anyway - good luck.

I had one of these when I was about that age.

Probably not what you are looking for though.

I had one of those but when it got to the end of the song a wild dog popped out of a closet and attacked a communist.

Well all is not lost! I cranked Tool's 46 and 2 just now and she was dancin and head bangin the whole time...thank goodness she likes the heavy guitar. Neighbor bought her a "Dora" plastic guitar with buttons and she actually got upset the fake plastic strings didn't work.

Grandson is 3, he has had a ukulele since he was 1 and a Mini strat for a year. He likes to play still.
I use open tuning so he can strum chords. Just got the mini v this year.
Who knows?, I have spent money on worse things, great memories at any cost.:) And I got to wear the Sheriff Badge for the lesson.

I tried to get all my kids to play, but none of them were interested. About four months ago my oldest daughter (16 years old) decided she wanted to take lessons. I got her an Agile tele copy, and a Fender tube amp with built-in digital fx.

Unfortunately, I've yet to have to yell at her to "turn that damn guitar down!"
so I'm worried she's not practicing enough. :)

Don't remember who it was that said this, but I remember an interview with some successful musician who was asked what he would do to get his son to be a great guitarist. He said he'd leave guitars all of his house and punish him every time he caught him playing one. His reasoning was that the kid would practice behind his back every chance he got.

Always great value in passing along the love of playing to the youngest of kids, but not to the in-between knowitalls. I will pop those kids in the mouth! Smartassed fools! omg they remind me of myself!

:)

At least I am not afraid from paranoia. I got experience the old fashioned way. Taking the doors off the liquor cabinet.

I can't drink Gin to this day. Something about a friend's dad's Tanqueray mixed with a warm 7-up. He never noticed the watered down result of our theft. I never got over the smell of juniper berries and Georgia pines.

Heatburn? Oh jees. I can't touch Cuervo or Jack Daniels or any kind of rum or beer or anything over 0 proof except mouthwash.

I used to drink for the CIA.

I bought a mini-strat for my middle son. Sold it at a yard sale last year.
Not a bad little instrument BUT you might want to look for tuners before you get PUP's for it....unless they have improved their tuners. I bought mine maybe 8-10 years ago.

I got a cheap uke for my 3 year old. He didn't do much in the way of fingering, but he sure liked to strum so +1 on open tuning

He's 4 now but doesn't really play it anymore. I like the idea of pretending that he's not allowed to play my guitars.
