Tough month for me, but happy holidays!

Post by LeftyStrat »

This has been the most stressful month of my entire life. In the past thirty days, in no particular order, the following has happened to me:

- Got arrested and spent the night in jail for assaulting a cab driver (Later all charges were dropped).
- Lost my job.
- My wife's computer died.
- Backing out of a grocery store parking lot, a driver hit me going the wrong direction. The husband of the woman having an affair with the driver of her car tried to extort and blackmail me. (Insurance company took care of that one).
- The top on my Jeep started leaking and I have a two inch puddle of water in my Jeep.
- My son has been accused of making threatening statements to a teacher. Still under investigation, but even if not true his grades suck and he doesn't seem to have any desire to improve. My wife spent the day crying, this is not how we teach our kids to treat others.
- My garage flooded ruining probably $1k in tools.
- I got a new job where I need to prove myself, no stress there :-)

Anyway, screw it, I'm still alive and happy and married to the woman of my dreams. I still have my eyesight, my hearing, and can walk. I saw a homeless guy today searching a garbage can for food and bought him a Subway sandwich.

No matter how bad things get, someone is dealing with problems worse than yours. Maybe when you're in a good spot you could help out a stranger. But in some ways, "helping others" has always been the motto of TAG.

Anyway, happy holidays. May you all find joy and love, regardless of being in the 6L6 or EL34 camps :-)

Yes sometimes it seems as if everything that can go wrong does go wrong.

Lefty you sound like a great guy and I don't hear the "Woe is me" attitude at all.

You are thankful for what has been given you.

If we all took that attitude this world would be a better and safer place.

We should all think, that this too shall pass, when adversity seems mountainous.

Don't let that smoke out!

Wow, best wishes to you and yours Lefty.

Actually things have been going so amazingly great for us this year...even the bad breaks turn out to the positive...it's making me worry.

We've seen some bad times in years past.
Seems sowing the seeds pays off after a while.

Great attitude Lefty - my hat off to you.
Don't know about a country song.
Sounds like there's a blues song in there somewhere.
We are a lucky bunch though.
My thoughts go out to Mark's (Rockstah's) loved ones.
And all of our friends who have health problems.

Ditto! Sometimes life just turns to crap for a while. I've come to think of these times as God's way of reminding me of who I am.

Stay the course, things will change.

Wow.
LeftyStrat - you aren't alone. By the time most of us have made it to 50, a lot of this has hit us or our families. It's been a tough few years for my wife (death of parents, having to serve as trustee, family squabbles), and now myself (parental medical and housing crises), and together (business down 60%).
But - life is often too short, and very often way hard. As you have said, there are many people who have it tougher. I never tell myself "it can't get worse", because it surely can.
Only way I handle it is with the love of a fine wife, and tackling one problem at a time (even if I have to juggle the other ones for awhile), and remembering to look for the good things in life every day. Sounds like you are doing the same. The new job is hopefully a morale-booster!
This is a pretty fine group of folks here on TAG...
Best,
Greg

Thanks for the support guys. I'm feeling pretty good with my new job. Been giving everything I could to the homeless and beggars on the street, even to a woman singing Christmas carols at the top of her lungs that probably shouldn't be singing.

We've learned my son was not actually involved in the incident involving threatening remarks to a teacher, he was just a bystander.

Love, kindness, and compassion got me through this difficult time. I guess when you're thinking more about others than yourself, it's easier to avoid the destructive self-pity.

May all of you have a wonderful holiday season, and don't forget to hug someone.
