Yow!$

Back when, I set aside all the wrong tubes.

Hopefully someone's Super Lead now sounds like the voice of God.

NOTE: EU residents have to add 19% V.A.T. ! Double Yow!

Yow indeed! Yow, I take it, being the opposite of Score!?
Good for the economy, keeps the money moving.
Let the 'phoole inflation work for you.

Seems to be the going rate for a quad of those these days as the real thing hardly ever pops up.
Have been keeping my beady eye on the final bids of these because I have a pair stashed away too.
When I finally get around to an Express I will pop 'em in that for a session, out of curiosity,
and then intend to take them to market too.
Get me some bean seeds instead.

Congratulations,
tony

ha, maybe I got the wrong end of the stick. I thought you sold them, hence the congratulations.
Cars are even more trouble, but you know that surely.

I guess that is what happens when no more great tubes are being made.

Supply (low) and demand (high)

I wish some outfit in the US would make popular designations again.

But alas, the greenies won't have any of it.

It could be done, but at what cost? With all the relevant compliance issues, it is highly doubtful that price, supply, and demand issues would ever line up in the US or Eurozone.

Chalk one up for China? You'd think with their reputation as copycats they could actually make a perfect replication, not just a cosmetic replication? No, I guess not. Look at the failed 12AX7M among others.

These types of auctions always make me laugh. $1525 plus $20 shipping. You need to pay the shipping because the poor seller could never afford to ship them at that price. I am surprised the shipping isn't higher. That's the usual MO of the ripoff seller.

I nver bought from him but that seller has some really cool stuff. He started these off at like $150 IIRC. Can't blame him 2-3 people wanted them so bad they dished out 2 good weeks' wages. I put a trunk of tubes away that I'd be selling for $1500 a quad if I had put the right ones away. :(

Nice dream. The big part of the market is plenty satisfied to just have a commercial mass produced amp with glowing tubes in it. The boutiquers, savants, and fussbudgets like us will never be enough to sustain NOS quality now or in the future, and the DIY crowd is by definition mostly poor or cheap. In the late '80s there were (are still?) authentic WE 300B repos out there but they were like $300 a piece back then. Bet those 12AX7M would have been $45 a pop. Maybe when 1 billion Chinese all join the bourgeoisie they'll all start demanding NOS quality tubes for their Germinos and Audio Research.

Oops. I just realized that final price was a bid and not an asking price. My bad.

Remember when Aspen Pittman said he bought the old GE tube manufacturing equipment and said he was going to make 6L6-GE's?

He also said he was going to do it in California of all places.

He had "Made in the USA" on some of the first batches until people started getting wise.
Some of the parts were NOS but they were manufactured in China.....

China will continue to get better.
They are at the stage that Japan was in the 60's when most things made there were poor quality.
Nowadays if you get something that was actually made in Japan, you feel lucky because it is top quality.

So what are the environmental issues involved in tube manufacturing?
It's never too late to have a happy childhood.
