Lumber shortage (I need specialty pine!)
I need a little over 14' of dead-flat sawn western knotty pine that matches from end to end. Two 1/4 by 12". The only knotty pine I can find is white, or it's already made into hotdogs. (t&g flooring/panel)
Anyone know of an online wood supplier who hasn't ruined every tree?
I need it to make a theme amp with wood burning and silver stars and buckskin piping and a rusty front panel with control markings such as "shake" "rattle" and "roll". The master is probably going to be "Daniel Boom", and the gain maybe "Gumption". Ya hear me?! I think the knobs will be hand turned silver plated brass because my time is cheaper than the vintage bakelite knobs I wanted by a mile.
It's going to be a long cold winter and I want to do all my freezing on purpose.

Sounds like a cool project.
Not sure what's available in Georgia but out here the pine they have at Home Depot sure has a lot of knots.
But trying to find a 14' piece 12" wide is probably going to be a challenge.
But since there isn't really a pronounced grain pattern, you could probably make it out of three or four separate boards.
Love to see pictures once you get going on the project.

Re: Lumber shortage (I need specialty pine!)
I think I am looking for resaw reclaimation wood from a mill or similar works 100 years or older. No luck yet AT ALL.
Western knotty looks like the top on a '50s G_retsch Roundup. It is very different from the close grained stuff you see like white, or yellow, and the knot count is out to lunch. Think old hunting lodge.
I have ideas, just not luck! There seem to be a lot of pine lodges in Utah, and definately Colorado ski lodges. Maybe I just need to book a night and take a saw.
Finders keepers!

Re: Lumber shortage (I need specialty pine!)
In july I bought $200 of the clearest pine I could find...straight, flat, translucent pine...only to cut a few boards and find out I am allergic to pine saw dust!!! Not awesome!!!!
I'll ship you some to Georgia bro but there isn't a knot in it.
I'll probably schedule a few days off and get down and dirty on some pine cabs

Found a good prospect for a slightly different genus that I was set on, but they have some really fine looking stuff. I am not sure what shipping will be from Maine, but the board @ 12/4 12x36 is going to cost less than $25.
Hoohah! Now off to Tandy leather place for piping. Braid or no braid? I might braid a whip for the face surround! Yeeeehaw! -piping snap sound-

Power switch should be marked "play" for on and "ride" for off.

Are you familiar with Dale Watson?
He plays a guitar modeled after a Tele made by an Australian named Alan Tompkins.

You might find it interesting.
