KMD was an import brand of Kaman Music Bloomfield CT, parent company of
Ovation. I live fairly close to them and remember the brand. There were a few music stores around here that sold factory seconds back in the day.. Looks like a nice loud find ;)

I don't know if it's the same company, but in the early 90s KMD made hi-fi speakers, and of all things, PC computers. My first PC in 1990 was a KMD 386 40Mhz (AMD chip) Windows 3.0 and DOS 5.0 LOL!

The transformer iron looks good.

What year is this amp from? My 1986ish Laney's (AORs) don't look like that on the inside. They don't have PCB mounted tube sockets. The tube sockets are mounted on the chassis.

Funny, the first thing that came to mind when seeing the gut shot was early '90s Laney. I've serviced a couple KMDs, and have one on the bone yard that sported a pair of 6L6s and a solid state preamp. Also have at least one KMD pedal.

I shot them an email to see about a schematic. I havn't heard back from them, not that I expected to. I ordered a schematic from www.gourmetpa.com. I got a schematic for my Lab L5 (King's X fan 8) ) from them a few years ago. Pretty good list of schematics there.

swarty, my buddy that's been in the business forever told me they were built by Laney, so the similarities you are seeing makes sense.

DonP, I'm not sure on the year, but I would guess late 80's. The iron sure does look good. I think it'll do fine for what I want.

Kaman Music is the parent corp of Ovation Guitars. Kaman also has another aerospace engineering firm that specializes in helicopters.

As far as I know KMD was part of Kaman, the aerospace company famous for their twin rotor helicopters. Apparently the president or somebody was a music person so they had a sideline in musical instruments. Go figger. http://www.kaman.com/aerospace/helicopters/

I think they were also connected with Ovation guitars too.
