Two-Rock Classic Reverb is Dumble inspired ?

Post by MrBluesStrat »

Hi guys!

Anyone knows if the Two-Rock Classic Reverb has a Dumble circuit?
Or only TR footprint? Or little bit from here and there?
When Dumble inspired from which Dumple Modell? ODS or SSS?

Many thanks in advance for you help !

Its basically a simplified SSS, without the Step Filters.

Wouldn't a Bluesmaster with reverb added do the same thing? The BM stays very clean.

AFAIK the Classic reverb uses a Modified Classic Tonestack and Fender type Verb (Although don't quote me on that).

I'm not sure it uses a CF driver...

But yes it's very Dumble inspired.

Not sure what they have done to the Classic Reverb but here is a photo if you haven't seen this.

Neither the Classic Reverb nor the JM Sig have the CF following the PI. You can see this from the tube setups in the manuals or from pics around the internet. Basically, the Classic Reverb is SSS#4 minus the filters and minus several of the local negative feedback loops and several power filtering "nodes". Also, it only has one tube for the "tweed mixer" (mixes the dry and reverb signals) instead of two found on SSS#4. It's reverb circuit is the 3-tube reverb found on the SSS amps (and the other Dumble Reverb amps). If you look closely, you will see that the Classic Reverb is the same amp as the Sterling Sig/Custom Clean minus the aforementioned appointments.

First of all many thanks for that great infos!

Other question regarding TR:
The clean channel from the CRS V2 or V3 is derived from the ODS?

Thanks again!!

Yes. They are all basically ODS topologies with a couple tweaks here and there (reverb added on some, 1/2 tube loop, tonestack tweaks, etc.). There are some schematics floating around here of the original CRS. That will get you started. Compare that to the several ODS layouts in the files section and you will be on your way to understanding the similarities and differences. Better yet, buy one or two and spend a few months charting it out while understanding what each component/section does.

Thanks for the clarification, any idea of the B+ voltages on the V1 plates in those Two-Rocks? Pretty sure the SSS measured around 135v at each plate.

135V seems pretty low. I know that the SSS02 Schematic says 185v at 1A/1B. I believe that the Two Rocks are right around that level (SSS02 level), if not a bit lower.
