Well there is alot of evidence that says the Ice ages happen quite rapidly like in a matter of a couple years so there is still hope that we will see one.
Lots of cold fresh water entering the ocean (like from melting glaciers)seems to be the catalyst

I don't believe in "mother nature" (or Gaia in the Greek mythological sense of the term) as some intelligent (or even sentient) guiding force of the Earth. I don't take issue with anyone that does either.
We live in a vast cosmological array of complex systems and subsystems ruled by the laws of physics (which we scarcely understand .... yet). The truth is, the universe is fantastically violent and turbulent. Our little spinning orb of a planet is a miracle, when considering the gazillions of variables that went into its' formation and allowed life to gain a foothold and flourish.
And now there seems to be some confirmation from the large hadron collider of the existence of the theoretical Higgs Boson. As a result, some physicists are advancing the notion, at least the possibility theoretically, of the existence of parallel universes.
Over population looks like a problem to me. Dont look at me. I never had kids. Whew. Lucky you.
Hmm.. Science is awesome. I still don't buy a particle that defines gravity, yet. This shouldn't be cause for alarm. I don't believe in much of anything.
We don't understand much, but they keep talking like it's all news.
If I hear one more story about a newly dicovered exoplanet Imma gonna puke. Why not a story of a tree found growing on a mountain, or a yeast culture found in a bread loaf.
-yawn-
There is more outreach (degreed explainers) than science. A shame. A waste. It's all mostly commercials for the somewhat stalled state of major discovery. LHC aside, I suppose.. Still don't believe it does what they say)
I watch Ted Talks. Some of them are entertaining, but few of them have much intrest to me in the end. I am not so interested in the human intrest crap. On with the depth. Lets have the beans.

cbass wrote:I wonder how many acres of land it takes to feed NYC for a year?
I saw a thing about a food bank system In NYC yesterday. 70 tons a week I think was that number, and I am sure most people in the city feed themselves.
