Post by joe6v6 »

Heres a few pics of the chassis of my latest build, she will be named Tiffany, I will be done with her in a day or 2 & post some pics of the finished amp along with a lot of pics of the build on my website. The cabinet is somewhat non-traditional, like most of my amps, Ill put the pics up as soon as shes done . . JOE

Looks very nice! Great job! If you don't mind my asking, what kind of finish did you use? I've tried spray enamel, it worked OK, but discovered it isn't very resistant to contact cleaner, oops.

not answering for Joe, but it looks like a color I have and use, which is Krylon Farm Implement paint in International Red. I like the stuff. Put on at least two coats and then a clearcoat or two and it's fairly durable. Unless powdercoating is used, I imagine any of us would be hard-pressed to find a spraypaint that isn't vulnerable to solvents. But, I am also curious as to what you used, Joe.
BTW, sweet lookin' build! :D

Here are a few pics of the finished amp, If you go to my website www.blazeamps.com its the last amp in the list "BLAZE". Im not finished with the listing but ive pretty well documented the painting of it. Im not a painter but a good friend is and he talked me into painting one, Im pretty happy with it for my first paint job. Its all automotive paint, even better than what comes from the factory on most cars. . . JOE

awesome stuff, Joe -- I like your site. The Starliner is something else. What in the world did you use for the chassis? too cool 8)

Great looking cab! I love the front faceplate and how the switches just poke through. 8) Phil

Really awesome work joe! :D Have you considered selling custom chassis'?

It looks like there is some kind of epoxy or G-10 insulator on the tube sockets of some of your builds. Care to elaborate?

Ever since the first amp I built I didnt like the tubes wobeling around in their socketts, especialy rectifier tubes that have only 4 or 5 pins so I started using epoxy to glue the pins in place. I wrap a peice of masking tape around the base put a peice over the key hole & put about a 1/16th" of a 2 part epoxy on top. Its kind of tedious and I know most people would say unnecessary and some have even said it wont allow for expansion as the tube heats & cools but It does what I want it to do which is keep the tubes & the wires from wobeling around & I have never had a problem associated with it. Even with amps that are Giged 3-5 times a week. I usualy just do the powertube socketts & rec tubes.
