Ok, here is the Bassman with Tung Sol 5881s and the Express with SED EL34s. With these tubes there is a more pronounced volume difference in the room - the Express is louder and the Bassman is quiter. I edited the .mp3 files for volume only so they would all be the same...

I'd hate to have to make a choice Larry. These are a first class set of samples. I think the difference here is tube you know? The EL-34s are kinda crisper with a tighter top and middle. But the Bassman is just fantastic with those Tung-Sols. I couldn't choose. I want them both.

Good work mister!

Ah, there she is...Express with EL34s sounds killer. Both sound great. Only one solution: run 'em in stereo!

Larry, I really liked the second set of clips better than the first set. This is not to say I didn't like the first set of clips. They are all great sounds. It is all relative and subjective, too. Of that second set, I have a clear preference for the Bassman. I thought the Express sounded a little constipated and the Bassman was considerably more open -- whatever that means, FWIW.

I didn't have very good levels on the 1st set of clips, and they were done late at night so the performance wasn't as sharp fwiw.

I'm enjoying the Bassman, tonight will be the 1st time I get to use it at practice ;-)

Hi Guys:
Getting in here late.
They both sound great.
I really like the tightness of the Bassman.
The express IMO sounded better with 34s compared to the V6s.

The Bassman was so easy to hear in the mix, I almost wanted to (gasp) TURN DOWN! But I resisted the temptation ;-) Very articulate - easy to hear the good and the bad and the tone was great.

We mic everything and I have a plexiglass panel in front of my speaker. This works out really well to get the good tones and still hear the vocals well.

Now I gotta build the head cab so I can get it out of the combo cab which is too freakin' heavy!

Ditto.... My son has a Blackface Bassman head and it just kills. We've done shootouts against my Express and man it's amazing how close they are in the mean dept. I especially like the way the Bassman blooms into feedback.

Jim, just curious, but which Bassman does your boy have? AA864, AA165, AB165?

Larry, I gotta say, that 6G6B sounds really good. Just cranked overdrive tone and no pedals?
