Hey Marcos,

Thanks. :) Did you use a 0.01uF mid cap? I think that affords a lot of low end and, to me, it would make the "Deep" switch more of an obsolete thing. I have never had a problem thinking a Skyliner amp sounded thin at a gig, but my "classics" could feel that way some times depending upon the room I was playing and the Deep switch would help with that.

I converted my 79 ODS´tonestack to something very similar to the
Skyliner, sans Mid switch, keeping the Deep switch. I find the combination
of Bright and Deep very useful for a more Fender-y clean tone, use it for recording a lot. Bright switch is 180 pF.
I remember playing half a gig wondering what was wrong, then found out I had plugged into the FET input accidentally.
Just my 2 (Euro) cents

Mark, as you can see on the attached picture, Sonny Landreth e.g. uses the "jazz" position of his Bluesmaster ODS.

And here Peter Lerche demonstrates the difference between the Rock and the Jazz positions of an ODS with a skyline tonestack and plays the OD channel with "Jazz" activated: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ap6odoC4itw

And here (around 03:40) Doug Doppler demonstrates the function of the bright, deep and rock/jazz switches of an ODS with a classic tone stack: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SNSAj6Az ... re=related

Cheers,

Max

Gil,
I guess HAD felt the same way and omitted the Deep switch on the Skyliners.I do use a .01 mid cap, although at first, I felt it made the amp too boomy.
To me the Deep switch is not obsolete, since it also reduces mids while giving the impression of a low end boost. I always use it in combination with the Bright switch, and voiced my Bright switch for this.
As mentioned before, I find this very useful in practice.
Can´t hurt to have both the Mid and Deep switches in a new build,
like the Two Rocks for instance.
BTW I also like the R/J switch,
I feel it is a unique feature of HADs design, but I guess I could live without it.
Have a nice day everybody

I have a couple hollow body guitars that have floating block construction, depth is 2 3/4 inch on these 16 inchers. One of these have humbuckers with a hardtail and one uses TV Jones with a Bigsby. The Jazz setting requires retweaking of the preamp, slightly increased clean master volume or gain or both can compensate for the weaker volume of the jazz setting. Lead channel will need to be tweaked both on gain and master volume. But for thicker body, hollowbody and jazzboxes the jazz switch sounds wonderful, IMHO.

I agree 100 %. A lot of people forget to readjust their controls in Jazz mode,
they simply flip the switch, think the amp sounds too thin, and go back to Rock setting instantly. Take your time boys. I am sure HADs intention was to offer Ampeg-style tones on his amps, too. I also like it in combination with the FET input, giving the amp a little bit of solid-state like attack.

Jazz mode (or modified Jazz modes) are fantastic if you play jazz... (I mean if you go hollow body, neck pickup, tone rolled of...)

cheers
