Airbrake

Post by Gibsonman63 »

I built an Airbrake a couple of years ago when I built my Express clone. I never really liked it. It seemed to kill the tone when I cranked down the volume. A friend of mine, who is much more experienced in electronics in general, took it home and fixed it up for me. Now it works beautifully.

Apparently, you have to get really serious with a file to make sure you have really good connections on the adjustable Ohmite resistor and you need to measure your taps and keep them close to spec. I had the right resistance, but part of that resistance was my lousy connecton and not the resistor itself.

Right on. I want to take a crack at one of these.

Do you have any pics of the work your friend did?

I'll take some pics over the weekend. Basically, I believe that he got much more agressive than me in getting a really clean connection on the adjustable ohmite resistor. It did look pretty tarnished when I was working with it before.

Perfect! I need you to add a variable DI on the amp side of it, I'll pay shipping!

So to sand down the coiled exposed metal and the clamps? Mine seems to work fine using the adjustable ohmites.
