New (Exp) build pics and a question about OT primaries...

Post by Paul-in-KC »

All,

I have a question regarding OT primary connections.

Specifically, I am building a TW Exp usigng the Pacific Transformers from RJ.

I notice on Ron Worley's layout (which is awesome Ron) - that he has included a color translation so I can tell that I should connect my purple wire to V5 and my Green wire to V4.

My question is - is there a way to tell from the OT documentation which should be connected to which side of the output on a Push-Pull amp?

Thanks and here are a few pics...

Here's one of the cap stack installed (grounds and bleed resistors). Don't know why I like this pic so much - but I do...

You get the idea. You have seen a bunch of these.

This is my second build project. I recently completed my first which was a Marshall 2204 circuit - with parts sourced primarily from CeriaTone - built with Mercury Magnetics transformers and choke. Man, does it sound great. Still just have all JJ tubes in - but it sounds fantastic.

Thanks.

Paul, I recently built a Liverpool with Pacific Transformers and did a search to ask a similar question. Most folks said to leave the leads long enough to switch if you need to upon power up. I also found a post saying that on Pacific's remember Purple (violet) to Power board, meaning that the Violet lead goes to the power tube closest to the power supply board.

I left the leads long on initial turn up, but the "purple to power" did turn out to be correct.

hope this helps,

What a clean & neat build. Great job so far. I'm sure it will turn out great!

I ended up having the said wires crossed on my recent build. Easier way to correct the issue was to reverse where they at the preamp board (suggestion from a board member). All good at the end of the day. If it howls and squeeks you know you have it the wrong way round. Best of luck!

Paul,

You have a gifted touch for cosmetic perfection - can't wait to see this masterpiece when you have it finished.

Thanks for the encouragement guys. Very nice of you to say.

I sure hope it all turns out well.

I'll post some pics of it all together when I get there.

Right now, I just have a few more leads to attach to the preamp board - then wire the tube sockets and then install the boards and make those connections.

Just a few more hours of work - but it will take me days to finish (as I don't have that many spare hours).
