The fine folks at Celestion keep telling me they are coming up with an EVM equivalent. I am patiently waiting.
I would prefer a high power 65. The K100 is nice, but has enough cone cry to make it unusable for my taste.
Another option is the Classic lead 80, nice speaker.

I've heard it directly against the WGS 65, it's more aggressive and I your face. I forgot about that one, definitely in the running.dcribbs1412 wrote:Has anyone tried one of these?...

JBL...
MI-12 150w 2" ribbon wire VC, or
G125 200w 3" ribbon wire VC.
Both of these can be found on eBay, the G125 more plentiful in the 80-160 dollar range, the MI-12 raely appears, mostly in 50-100 amounts. Both are obsolete and no longer produced.
These speakers do the D-tones like the secret weapons they are, especially playing out in a band mix, but don't have to be loud to sound great. Warmer sounding than the very popular EV's. Very articulate and efficient.

I've got one of these with a little coil rubbing going on. Only shows up in OD & high SPL. Anyone know of a recone kit?
Re: Can of worms... Other than EVM, speaker for a 100 watt combo
Likely less $$ for a good used fleabay unit shipped insured than for a JBL parts recone kit + labor. Tone Tubby can recone it in hemp. $$$ for that and probably well worth it.

Bob, Were you able to try the Commonwealth yet?
Re: Can of worms... Other than EVM, speaker for a 100 watt combo
I've only had the cab a few days so I haven't tried anything but the EVM12L. I'll be trying the swamp thang next, maybe the tonker too, before I buy anything else.BobW wrote:Bob, Were you able to try the Commonwealth yet?
Honestly the cab Taylor built sounds damn fine with the EVM, far better than the boogafunk thiele. The boogafunk is a well built cab but I just never bonded with the tone for guitar, bass is actually great with the 12L.
