Nonsense! Strats sound great through a Dumble HRM. :D

I love Strats and HRM's. :D

I always suspected Dorothy got hooked on the poppy's and kept going back for more. That stuff will mess with your brain, man.

Beat me to it Gil. The trimmers do end up in wacky places and have an odd taper to get them right. Since you cannot buy an audio taper trimmer, you have no choice, unless you move them to the front panel and use audio "real" pots....

I had a Klein and a C-lator (Ceriatone D-lator clone). Bought both when I bought my Bluesmaster 100w to be able to A/B them. My thoughts: Klein is great for a backup, but it doesn't add the warmth and "dimensionality" that the D-lator does. Also, I found that the volume ceiling in the Klein was less than D-lator. IAE, I'd go with tube buffer over the FET, but have the FET as a backup if you can.

Found some nice new 1U (or bigger) cases here, they look better than the Maplins ones.

thanks Rog,
maplins look cheaper - but no VAT unlike the canford which bumps up the cost

might go maplins for now as not too worried about cosmetics - and Maplins is steel so should be sturdy enough to survive gigs.

PS - are you in touch with any other D-style amp users/builders in UK ? Have there been any UK amp meets etc that youre aware of ?

The Maplins are solid enough but heavy whereas the Canfords are ally.
I will give one a go next time I build a Dlator or some other rack mount kit.

The only D-stylers I have been in touch with is Guitarman 18 and Rob Livesey.

Also Tony from Doubletone who had some D amps made up

When I build my next one, I'd love to get together for an amp meet :D

All I've got now is my 5w Matt 86 Special HRM and AB763 El Guacamole mod 8) Deluxe

for a long time I've quite fancied getting some form of UK ampfest organised with like-minded builders and musicians.

Our US friends seem to do a really good job of that sort of thing in a massive country , whereas in the UK we are so close to each other, but never seem to get that sort of meet going ? seems counter-intuitive really.

I always like to see and hear other peoples amps and guitars.
Only issue is it always makes me want to acquire more gear , and I have quite enough already

Pete,

In my past work life I spent a large amount of time over in Hull and in York for Smith & Nephew medical. Great time, good friends and beer.

My mother's lineage is from Leeds - generations ago, whilst my father's lineage is from Scotland, even more generations ago. Yeah, Good Gin, good Scotch and good Ale - I enjoy them all. Sounds like a song doesn't it?

Take care,

John

Hi Pete,

I'd be up for an ampfest. I've got a BM, #102, #124, Hybrid SE, HP HRM (if I can get it back from a friend) and possibly a Ripper if I can get my act together!

Ideally we would need someone with a real deal ODS to attend so we can compare and contrast our builds.

Cheers,

Paul.

Hi Paul

whereabouts in the Uk are you ? I'm in Leeds.

I just have my donor amp build which is to 183 values at moment ( its built into an old valve PA chassis and has seen many amp circuits tested in it.

My plan was always to test the d-style circuits in it then build a proper clone once I had settled.
Its so nice to play that I've never got round to the proper build. I will at some stage buy the right chassis and components and get building.

I have my Park1210 replica head , a Jubilee 50 combo replica, an 18watt, and 6101, as well as a few small practice amps. I built them all expect the 6101 after owning and selling on the original amps ( like a fool)

You'd probably laugh if you saw my ODS - but it sounds very good to me.

not sure where we'd find the real ODS but worth a try.

keep in touch !

Also,

Paul/UK guys - any advice on where to get hold of the best components to use currently ?

For my knock up build I used all sorts of specs ( right values obviously ) but just used what I had in my rather large stash of resistors and caps etc
