Guess I have always had a problem with the term "Music Industry."

Sounds like a factory or something. Great musicians aren't an "industry," though others try to profit off them and turn it into "industry" by enslaving artists in bad contracts.

I take issue with more profits going to the bureaucrats than the creators.

I don't find a lot of difference between corporations like Sony Music, Universal Group, Exxon, or Monsanto.

Maximizing share holder value is the mantra, and it will always mean screwing the individual (both creator and consumer).
It's never too late to have a happy childhood.

it's all bullshit and politics on a ship that is taking on water the music industry is not moving fast enough to change the old "we are record labels" format to keep up with the new one hit wonder throw away and down load generation. The grammy's are a handful of old school guys trying to hold on to the time they where in demand.

I myself have tried to continue making a living at it. It got harder, and harder.. and harder. I do it for love now. I couldn't feed myself, much less a family from working double-overtime at it these days.

Good thing I am single, near 50, and have no dependants. My hobbies barely feed me, occasionally. IT work, general luthiery, music production and arranging. I can't even find a worth driving to live gig here. Experience is how ever long it's been since 1982.. oh no. 30 years in April.

I am a guitar owner.

I have seen the future. It's coming soon, maybe already in your time zone.
Signatures have a 255 character limit that I could abuse, but I am not Cecil B. DeMille.

I find it easy to get jaded also.
But it's so HARD for me to not inspired by this.

Hopefully they won't eat her alive, but alas it might be too late.

Timeless, like T-Bone, she won't leave my soul!

Edit to add, one of my top 5 favorite, most expressive videos ever.

+1

What an outstanding soulful voice. We'll see if she gains her strength back.

Hopefully she will be immune / resist the demons that come along with fame and fortune.

she has a few things going in her favor.

She's not american. so if she does act out it's socially more exceptable. She's on Columbia, It's one of the more stable (older genre) labels.
She's already chubby... fat so it wont be a scandle if she eats.
she's not a sex object.
What she has going against her is following up her album with a junior release. As well as learning to sing without causing damage to her vocal chords.

Most likely she will have a career similar to Natalie Merchant, Annie Lenix. They came they had a few huge hits, and after a while they faded out but still have some respect for what it is they did.

It's quite possible she can reinvent herself again. It really comes down to what songs the label buys her and how it's produced. The rest is marketing it so the consumer can't get away from it.

I think the show had it's moments amongst all the catterwallin' over Whitney.

The guitar jam at The End with Springsteen, Joe Walsh, Dave Grohl jamming with Macca and his bandmates Rusty Anderson and Brian Ray was the high point for me.
Joe Walsh and Sir Paul on the acoustic Valentine was nice also.

It seems that my fellow college Alumni Walsh has been getting quite the recognition lately. He's been touring with Ringo's AllStars (again) and has gotten exposure to country fans with his appearance on TV with Brad Paisley.
