I just finished my circuit. My mule is so awesome it freaked me out!
Thanks for putting up with my silly assed questions! You have all been so helpful, I just can't thank you enough. I have never been so blown away!
All that late night reading did something. I woke up this morning and rebuilt the front end like I had dreamed it or something.
Thankyouthankyouthankyou!

What kind of tone? Monster, bone-crushing high gain? What topology is it? C'mon man, you don't dangle 'My mule is so awesome it freaked me out' out there without details!Reeltarded wrote:I just finished my circuit. My mule is so awesome it freaked me out!

Yeah, give up the details.... Well??? Clipping diodes yes or no??? What else??

Marshall. I rebuilt it 100 different ways, and this one stays. It's mostly 67/68/71 components on a steel chassis in a white box with a gold block logo that makes me look dorky when I stand next to it.
It goes a little like this (from painful memory):
1a 960/250pf
1b 2.8/.68
2a 870ish/.68//330p
The channels are cascaded at the brite input mixer
1a insert is 490k/470p
470k from 1b to TS no peaker
TS 556p w/variable slope from 31-58k
27k NFB on 4 ohm tap
Dual 16 pre, screens 16s, and mains 32
Ummm
V1 nos Tung-Sol, 2-3 RFTs, and RFT el34s I found in my pile two weeks ago.
Diode clipping network built into a plug is a pair of opposing 1n914s like a key, and the keyhole is the unused input only when cascade input is used. The 1 meg input resistor from channel I is also in play there when cascaded. When I figured out how to make it all mix right and use the input to loop in the diodes I laughed for an hour!
Channel I still operates as plain old metal panel 4 holer.
This thing punches like Mike Tyson. Not Mike Tyson the bird dood, Mike Tyson the champ, but it's voiced much better.
PPIMV but not for long.
I think that's all. Unreal. The board is cooked up to the tone stack. LOL! Sounds crazy good though. Let it!

Badass! I presume you're using a cathode follower to drive the tone stack? Did you add the clipping network just after on a pre-tone stack master or further downstream after a (2203) master volume?

Literallty it's built on a 1/4" plug that inserts between the cascade. I made 3 keys for it. I'll get a picture and post when I am not on an Apple thing that can't do simple things like post a picture.
If you cascade this way, simply inserting a dead plug in chan. 1 gives a big boost. Huge hair. The clipper network tightens it up and makes me sound like George Lynch is on fire. The coolest thing is I can also sound like Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, Marc Bolan, Jeff Beck, Ritchie Blackmore, and a dozen others, all on fire. lol
It has a ppimv that stays wide open. I'd rather not play if I have to play that way. Just working it with the vol I and II gets crazy sounds at say.. AC30 volume but it can get as loud as a modern 100w.. and then some. A lot some!
I can't believe how tight it is with the lowest filtering. No idea how I got away with this...
Thanks for your guidance. This thing is a monster. Holy sheepdip.
