What kind of power output do you get from this configuration? I've always loved 6v6 amps, but the duals just don't have enough headroom.

I'm assuming with those higher voltages, a quad should be somewhere between 30 and 40 watts.

Dropping string as built: 680>15K>1.5K

AC: 123.6
heater: 6.7

V1 JJ 83S: 200/200
V2 JJ 83S: 203/206
V3 TS 12AT7W: 304/297
V4-V7 TS 6V6GT: 422/417 screens
bias: -24

2N3823 FET: Vcc= 15.9, Vd= 2.96, Vs= 2.66, looks like I need to increase the source resistor up and away from 2K.

TM

Post Mortem, an FET bias fixture would have been nice. I correctly biased the FET by changing the 22K and 2.05K to 18K and 4.7K. I might change the 15K string resistor to 20k to reduce V2 and V1 voltages a tad.

The voltages are now......

V1 JJ 83S: 204.9/205
V2 JJ 83S: 207.7/208.9
V3 TS 12AT7W: 304.2/296.2
V4-V7 TS 6V6GT: 424/420 screens
Bias: 22.7, 22.2, 21.3, 20.9

2N3823 FET: Vcc= 19.64, Vd= 10.85, Vs= 4.41

Time for shake down test and burn in.

This one is most likely closer to 50W.

Nice work TM! As usual. Taylor (Tailor) does real nice work, I just took delivery of that red suede zoot suit he had in the For Sale section recently. Very Christmassy!

Not sure what I'll put in it, have been thinking about a 50W Tweed ODS with a 5AR4. In a CE 4-hole chassis. I just got a pair of NOS EL37 that I kinda think would sound superb in the Tweed ODS, although I really bought them to try in my Corksniffer's 5E8A, but that sounds awesome with NOS Tungsol 5881s at 35mA.

Thanks David, I was hunting the Mullard EL37 for awhile but I could never find any verified NOS in the price range that was willing to pay. It is a sweet tube and should work well in that combination.

Probably a very ballsy 50 watts.

When I got back into tube amps a few years ago I could not believe how loud a 50 watt tube amp could get.
And being biased a bit cold was under 50 watts by a margin.

Taylor, eventually I'll get around to dressing it, but I need more NOS tubes as I've burned through all my AX7's. I just pulled the JJ/TS and put in my last NOS tubes. I changed the 15K string to 20K as the voltages with the NOS tubes increased. The voltages with the JJ/TS tubes should be in the the 185-190V area if they are installed again. The voltages with the NOS tubes are now.....

V1 RCA short gray plate 12AX7A: 193.8/198.9
V2 Sylvania black plate 12AX7A: 205/201.7
V3 Sylvania 12AT7: 301.5/296.4
V4-V7 TS 6V6GT: 421/417 screens
Bias: 22.6, 22.0, 21.1, 20.6

AS always another great build. I've followed your two threads on 6V6 builds and now I'm considering a 4-6V6 build. I'm wondering what the specs on your chokes have been.

Thanks

Thanks Eric , I like the platform as you can omit two tubes and run a pair of EL34's or 6L6's as well. Both chokes are just Fender style 40-100W chokes. Here's the black choke specs that I sent Heyboer.

022699 style: 2.810 mounting center, 4H, 100mA, black enclosed frame & endbells.

FYI in case you decide to do one, here the bias circuit: 45V tap>750>10K pot>12K tail. Has just enough range to bias up all 3 tube types.

Mike
Here is another cool set up you can do with the output section.
This mod will let you choose between 2 6v's or 2 EL-34's or 6L's whatever you prefer, switchable or select between cathode and fixed bias. You of coarse have to set up separate bias supply's

Great work!!

Thanks for the info TM
This might be in my near future...
few questions if possible...
you running NOS 6v6's?
can I ask the PT specs( it's a custom order

Thanks again...and have a safe Happy New Year
