What I mean is they likely bought (which some other companies in the pro-sound and studio business did also) the insides from Dynaco directly. From what I recall, the MK-III power amp chassis I saw appeared factory made. So did the preamp chassis, except it had a Sunn panel over it. I doubt they would buy retail, only to resell, but who knows ? I'm doubting David Hafler cared, as long as he sold product. That would make sense, a company doesn't care at the end of the day so long as there is positive cash flow and your clientele aren't in direct competition for your main bread and butter product.

I have revered designed the two rock crs , dr.zstang ray and the mazerati and ghia. Plenty of people build these amp with my layouts. I never had any issues.
