Phaez Daisy Cutter

Post by Structo »

Phaez Amps is coming out with a little amp kit.

A single ended affair with a master volume.

It has been talked about quite a bit at My Les Paul forum and Gear Page.

I was wondering if anybody knew what circuit they are using?

Found an assembly tutorial so that explains most of it.

Not sure how close the single ended version is but there is a schematic (verified by Randy) over at AX84 (under Associate Projects). I built a budget version of it - cheap Hammond chassis, MPS transformers and whatever parts I could scrounge from the bench. Great sounding amp - tons of fun to play!

cathodes are
3k3/2.2uf - 4.7k/.22uf - 820 - 1.8k

Looks like a zobel.conjuctivefilter on the output? Looks like 100k on v2

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toroidal_transformer

Toroidal transformers are coming in a lot of equipment these days. That's what makes it possible to make a powered mixer with 2 500W power amps weigh in under 25 pounds.

Thanks Deric.

Anybody have the single ended version?

@ Mike,

Yeah it's a toroid power transformer.

Supposedly superior is some aspects.
Hi Fi guys seem to use them quite a bit.

Supposed to be quieter as well, no buzz from the core and a big time weight savings from no core.

The clips I heard of the Daisycutter were pretty amazing.
