Which version of the YVM is it ? 7027 or 6CA7 ?
There's some distinct differences between the two.

Sorry it took a few days to respond. It uses 6CA7s. I'm leaning toward trying an SLO - I already have a Wreck clone which gives me the "drinking water from a firehose" sensation when I need it. In my brief and remote experience with SLOs they like to be loud, but work pretty well at reasonable volumes as well.
