Life is a tale told by an idiot -- full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

...in other words: rock and roll!

Geez, I don't know where to start but Elvis Costello and Tina Turner still raise hairs when I hear them strain.

Don't really have a favorite, but lately I've been really liking Shelby Lynne. I like her "pop" oriented material than the country stuff though.

some great singers for sure already posted. I like good music and like all of them, but I gotta say since I'm into reggae music, currently my favorites are:

Harrison Stafford - Groundation
Chicoree Stokes - State Radio
Eric Rachmany - Rebelution

These guys bring it for the new generation of reggae for sure not only on a vocal level, but lyrics as well. Good stuff...

never heard of those new guys but I'll certainly investigate, me bredda. My picks for old school:

Horace Andy - my #1 - check out In The Light & Everyday People. Andy, Marley and Cliff are Jamaica's greatest songwriters.
Ken Boothe
Desmond Decker
Dennis Brown - esp. on the '70s Joe Gibbs roots stuff
And while not a 'great' voice I have a soft spot for Johnny Clarke's singing.
I'm leaving out the vocal groups to keep it short but The Cables would start the list.

Carter Stanley - had the sweetest male voice I ever heard. His brother isn't too bad either, maybe the greatest harmony singer ever, though Monroe when Jimmy Martin was his lead gave him a good run for the title.

Lefty Frizzell
Merle Haggard
Guess I like them country crooners.

Janis, Billie, Patsy for women are obvious and for serious good reason. I would marry Alison Krauss without even going on a date.

I'm not the biggest Animals fan, but Eric Burden is overlooked.

Can't even start on the soul crowd, even the minor ones were incredible, but Al Green for sure. Bet he got laid a lot.
