Clones, what's the best?

Post by samdjr74 »

Hi All,

So I'll never be able to afford a real TW, at least if I could the wife might just kill me for that one. But I think I could survive getting a clone. The question is with all the different companies out there who makes the best one? I'm not affraid to assembly it myself but I might need a little tech support with that. The goal is high gain but lower volume which may help narrow down the search.

Thanks,
Sam

You are still looking at a fair amount of money to buy a clone that is complete and ready to rock, although they sometimes pop up here for very reasonable prices.

If you can handle the build yourself, all of the information is here for sourcing the parts and very detailed build instructions are here as well. Get all the parts shipped to your office and sneak them into your garage in the bottom of your lunch pail and your wife never has to know.

Check out the build instructions and see if it is something you feel comfortable with. If not, then you are back to purchasing a working amp.

I know it won't be cheap for a clone but the last TW I saw for sale was going for 37K

I just couldn't help pointing it out.

If I was going to buy a pre built clone I'd go with Allyn.

Amp

You guys would not believe what I have had to do to get amps and kits from rj into the house. The last rocket kit came late in the day and I was out with my wife.I knew the box would be on the front porch,I backed the car in to block the view of the porch and beat her out to the front door, then I tossed the box into the bushes. She never saw me get it out later that night. She is a great lady and has really been great over the years with guitars and amps. But this amp sickness can be troublesome. Got G.A.S.?

I hear you Brother! Oh yes, I do! Perhaps you can relate ..... that a car with a trunk is often preferable to an SUV where contents are easily visible?
