Mike DeTemple uses trem blocks made of titanium that are supposed to sound very nice indeed (don't have any myself).

I tried the Resonari block @ the NAMM convention and am pretty sure I liked it. Slots cut into the brass make for a different resonant frequency. [Why that's better or just placebo effect - I dunno!]

OP... Does this approach the sound you're thinking of?

That's just my semi-hollow Tele clean into a cheap pedal compressor, 'verb, then to TEAC.

Some of my fave sounds are pedal steel, Jerry Byrd, etc. so at gigs I almost always run a comp. pedal for sustain/lead boost, etc. Then solos are fun without being grungy.

As far as adding sustain without changing your tone....One thing I tried recently is the Resonari sustain block. I've upgraded my strats to bigger steel blocks before, but this brass block rings out like crazy. I found that I have much more sustain and a little bit more clarity and note definition.... I usually don't go for every new thing out there, but this was worth it. The only down side is that I'm gonna want one on every strat now...

Have to admit, the Resonari is pretty sick! definitely gonna have to install one. However, what I'm looking for is going to be inside the amp itself. Since most of the boutique amps that have that transparent over drive are based on the Twin Reverb design I was hoping there was a tweak that could be done to the amp I have instead of spending 3K plus. Although, Ceriayone is only about 1K so maybe that's the cheapest way to go.

In this case I got the same compressor pedal but turned on a Tubescreamer for parts of it to get a bit more 'howl.'
Not an internal amp boost, but still—it's one way to rock a clean amp.
This is a 1-12EV 2-6L6 combo I built with a pretty close-to-stock Fender topology.

Well Baxtercat ya pretty much nailed it my friend! Guess I'm gonna go invest in a compressor pedal and a tube screamer cause that tone is pretty kick ass and allot closer to what I'm looking for than where I'm at now. Thanks for the help. Much appreciated.

The Fatfinger...I used to laugh, but that was before I got this SG [what a lightweight, no sustain, cheapo sounding thing...at least compared to the maple neck bolt-ons I'm used to]. I'd like to try that headstock weight. Could be what it needs.
In that same sustain vein, look at the string-thru setup I did to the SG with a chunk of brass and a different bridge. It did help a bunch.

Sort of gotten away from the amp discussion, I know, but still in the quest for tone.
Back to your original query, I've heard many clips of amps—surely Twins, even—with the good sounds...boosted gain, clean-ish yet saturated stages, etc. The sounds were probably better, richer than what I tend to get. My few pedals are just an EZ 'fix' for a live trio situation.
