TKT and I value his opinion and I like to see him moving forward to build his own clone and demystifiying #183. Lets make a new vid.
BTW SKT too. I love your clips...

Hey Scott, that sounds great, but IMO its still missing the lower mids, and has to much high end. Its nasally. What can you do technically that would add some lower mids? If you did not know what was in a Dumble circuit, and were trying to replicate the sound by ear, how could you get a bit more lower mids? IMO, that, and the vocal vowel like sound (almost like a built in wah pedal) are the two mysteries that no one has gotten yet, and I am hoping Shad can nail. (Sorry to pressure you Shadman, but I am counting on you!) #183 and the Blue line tone have huge lower mids. Its what gives them that big sound.dogears wrote:Btw, remixed Kalimba with stereo Lexicon verb.

I also will record the GW Phat Momma tomorrow on the same backing as I recorded 183. Let's see how similar they can sound!

That is a wonderful sounding clip, done by a true artist. That is also a superb sounding amp. I don't care if it's a Dumble or not!dogears wrote:Btw, remixed Kalimba with stereo Lexicon verb.

Tag, it is my recording, mics, guitar, and not the amp.
The amp sounds like 183 and has HUGE HUGE low mids. Don't be fooled by clips....
Proof, is you say that about all my clips!

Great phrasing, great melodic content, great articulation. The amp's tone is secondary to the great playing.

You sounds great, the clip is terrific and Mr. Dumble should bow to you.
Cheers to all,
Gil

More power to ya. I was never able to get non-wacko cap readings in circuit with my Fluke.ampdork wrote:Cap unsoldered.

Re: Kalimba - New clip demoing both Ojai and Tag circuit
Here is a clip I just did on the GW. Exact low mids of the Dumble clips I did. Mic positions were not identical, the treble may have been a touch lower, and I had the loop on (47pf bright cap and 200pf cables) which may explain the slightly smoother and darker tone of this versus 183. I may unsolder the bright cap and record a naked clip to prove this amp sounds and feels virtually identical.

I'm not hearing any of the pop & snap that 183 has

Re: 183
I'll do another in the morning and try and set the amp the same. I think it was set with the treble control a little lower. Plus the loop cables smooth the top end. It really does feel and sound like 183. I am sure not identical, but I bet if I actually try, I can fool anyone.
I posted to show the low end. Tag thinks it has a different bottom. That is 100% wrong. Exactly the same.

Re: Kalimba - New clip demoing both Ojai and Tag circuit
Brad, 183 has a linear midpot. I think we had it much higher than how I had this set. We used a 30% taper audio here. I like that more. However, when we recorded 183, we ran the mids really hot. Pot past 11oclock maybe?? If I bump the mid setting on the GW, it will pop the mids more. I'm telling you, amp is very very similar.... I di dnot post this clip to "nail" the tone of the clip you posted. But, since you posted it, I'll try and do that in the am.
Case in point. The two clips here of the real Dumble sound just as different as the new clip.
