Lightning Reverb clone

Post by jcat5503 »

I am wanting to build a Matchless Lightning reverb clone and make a 1x12 combo out of it. Just to have a good practice amp and for a grab and go for small gigs (I love el84's)

Thing is I cant find the Lightning schematic anywhere that includes reverb..

Any body have it? Or know how i could do it the way Matchless did it?

Thanks!

Unfortunately I don't have a schematic of the Lightning reverb. If you want to do the reverb strictly Matchless take the reverb circuit from the Chieftain. You will need two tubes for that.

You can also use the one tube reverb which many folks here use for their D-style amps.

Very interesting, Mr. Fowler... what other Matchless schematics might you have that aren't on Schematic Heaven? Baby, maybe? Avalon?

Anyone ever build or heard a lightning reverb? Just like a Lightning but with reverb or does it loose something?

I prefer the Spitfire over the Lightning because the lightning breaks up too early where as the Spitfire is loud and you can dial in anything from clean to some grit to grittier. I gig in small venues with the Spitfire into a 1-12 open back cab and used a pedal board with Boss reverb but don't think I even turned the reverb on last time.

As far as other Matchless schematics and layouts many of us have those and posted them previously but I can post them here if you like.

Mark, thanks to you, I'm itching to build a Spitfire, but am done building cabs from scratch for a while. As soon as I find something like a worn out '80s ss Marshall combo to convert I too will have a Spitfire.

If you can post any Matchless schematics that aren't on Schematic Heaven I'd love to look at them. Thanks
