I'm going to make a chassis, and I'm going for 20 x 10 inches.. but how tall should it be? It needs to be about 2.5" because of the power supply radial caps. But I'd like to have it at least 3 inches tall. I guess that would look too big if I make the cabinet the way Dumble did it, but if I build it more like a Matchless, with the front covering the lower part of the chassis, it should be ok.
What is the standard height?

Re: chassis size
Two Rock Chassis are 3" tall, they don't look bad. If you can hold off a little I will have super accurate chassis available, there are pics. Actual chassis dimensions are:
19" wide,
8" deep
2.2" tall

Re: chassis size
Funkalicousgroove's units look really good. Taller is better. I'm rewiring a Blackface Bassman tonight and those have about 1.6" interior usable height. That is low enough that a standard sized toggle switch doesn't always fit.
Absolutely, positively, under all circumstances do not make the cab until the chassis is in hand -- and you have figured out how to mount it. If it is a Marshall situation where the chassis is a lot smaller than the box that is different but if you are going wall-to-wall across the front, have those chassis measurements in blood.

Re: chassis size
3" would be nice and spaceous...but I'm afraid it won't look that good, as long as the whole chassis is showing, as in most Dumble cabs..
I think 2.5" would look better, and still be enough.. I have another amp with a 6cm height.. or roughly 2.5"..
I see that there ususally is a aluminum bar across the cabinett, in the opening where the chassis fits.. Do you make this yourself usually?

Here in the states that 1/8"x 1/2" aluminum is sold at the DIY home improvement store, just cut it to size and counter sink holes. The 2 outside holes are 1" from the edges, the center is in the center, and the two inbetween are centered between the edge hole and center hole.
