Unfortunately the settings in the picture are not the ones I recorded with.Did you record it as set in the picture? If so those are some great tones for the masters being so low.
My usual settings are:
NOR input, Vol @ 1 O'clock, Bright & Mid Off, Rock On, Treble @ 10 O'clock, Mid and Bass @ 11 O'clock, Drive @ 10 O'clock (2 O'clock- clip 3), OD vol @ 9-10 O'clock, Master Vol @ 11 O'clock, Presence @ 10 O'clock.
As dogears has mentioned in the past, keeping the MV high and using the D'lator to control the volume is the way to go. (For me at least)

I would love to say I had the MV on 1, but you are absolutely correct, the amp sounds lifeless at that level. If the D'lator has to work overtime to raise the volume, I find that there is a higher noise content also.I would bet no way..... Paul said he used the 'lator recovery as a MV. Also, he said he has a 47pf bright cap. There is zero way that the clips, which sounded great, were recorded with the master at 1.
As always Scott, thanks for your suggestions that have helped get this amp to where it is today.

Guitar strings, I hadn't thought of that! I find it tedious enough to change the damn things, let alone make 'em before hand.Great job - great playing and great tone - you've raised the bar on D.I.Y. Now get busy making your own guitar strings

Thanks for the kind words Bob.Odd that I always though Robben played Life Song through a Fender amp, most likely a Super, but you nailed the tone (and the song) with the Dumble clean. Just great stuff!!
I've always loved Robben's clean tones. They have a 'gravitas'/ girth about them which I was always hoping to achieve. I definitely think I'm closer than I have ever been in that respect. It's great to be able to play clean and still have a tone that has some chunk.
Tony, as you know, your input has been invaluable in getting me here. Thank you.

That's a tricky one. It reminds me of a story I heard about a conversation between Coltrane and Miles. Coltrane asked, ''How do you go about ending your solos?''Great playing, great sounding build. Do you feel it need improvement?
To which Miles replied, ''Try taking your horn out of your mouth!''
Something like that, anyway. I can sympathise with Coltrane, it's hard to know when to stop!
This amp has a choke resistor in it, so I will be swapping that out to see where that takes me. I'd like to do 'before and after clips' so that I and anyone else, can see what the difference is.
Absolutely! As soon as I've saved my pennies, I'll be getting some G12-65's though, which I'm hoping will improve the OD sounds. The EV is a little too clinical with my amp on the OD channel at times.I love the clean sound with the EVM12L, they are a perfect match.
I must also thank Brandon, whom I owe more beers than you could ever imagine.
Cheers,
Paul.
