Lead dress is the length of the wires, and where they are positioned and routed.

For instance if you move a particular wire 1mm one way on an Express you could get get uncontrollable feedback and 1mm the other way you could end up without the bloom on the notes that the Express is famed for.

High impedance tube circuits are very susceptible to external influences, which means the signal carried on one wire can very easily interfere (in a good or bad way) with the signal on another wire. Knowing how best to route the wires is a skill in itself.

Fortunately we have the advantage of some fantastically detailed photographs of Francesca and Reject to use as a basis, so it is still achievable without too much trial and error.

Now we know my friend was right, actually yours is a confirm about what he thought "lead dress" meant.

Actually we tried with Google Translator (...) at first, but it gave us the italian for "a dress made of lead" : we knew there was something wrong, of course!

@Ken: I'm sorry, you may say that's a stupid question, but you know, we had to translate all this stuff into Italian, and even though we could image the meaning of that words, we needed to have a confirm by someone whose primary language is obviously English. So please be patient, I know I can be very annoying, but don't worry, I promise it won't last long

I did not say your question was stupid. The translation must be the problem - I think all your questions are good ones, and I like to help you.

Sometimes I try to make a joke, and it doesn't translate correctly.

I've worked in Italy several times over the years (down south in Taranto and Grottaglie), and I still have a lot of trouble with Italian. Your English is fine, don't worry!

The words I use most in Italy are "Scusami, mi dispiace, non capisco", and then the nice Italians slow down a little, so I can understand them

Talking about your experience in Italy.. Well, that's quite the same with me, for instance, when I travel to England! During the first week I usually have to get used to speaking english all the time, and need to talk slowly and so on. But after a week / a week and a half normally everything starts to move fluently more or less. Hope this will happen also to me in this forum!
Maybe it's just a matter of time, who knows?
