seeking???

Post by whatthe??? »

I recently inheiritrd an amp from my father,it's a Dumble. I haven't really checked it out as of yet,he was in a band in the late 60's and was bought around the time I was born in 69. It's a double stack (2 speaker cabinets) and an amp head. The stacks are both covered in black and the head is white with hand painted oval plaques reading the name Dumble! Steel String Singer is the model I believe with a serial number of "13" hand painted on back! If anyone can possibly give me some input on this set-up I'd appreciate it? There's also a Guild bass guitar (4string),pedals and all hook-ups!!! Not being a musician I really have no use for it and am possibly looking to sell??? [/b]

Interesting.

Could you take some close-up, high resolution photos of the amps exterior and interior and post these on the forum. That way you can get a lot of usefull info from the forumites, which can be helpfull in valuating the amp prior to executing a sales process.

If your amp is an original, it could be worth anything from 10,000-40,000 USD, depending on how it looks, sounds and performs.

BTW..............

Yes to the posting of pictures, but don't turn the amp on without having a tech look it over. Old tube amps have capacitors which are kind of like batteries in that they can wear out with age and lack of use. Turning an old amp on cold can cause them to short out and damage the amp. A tech will have a variac which slowly brings up the voltages. If you tell us where you are I'm sure a member of the forum can suggest a good amp tech.

A closet classic Dumble! If it checks out, it's worth serious money.

Eric

Depending on the model the Guild bass bass can be worth ++$1000 or not much at all. Post photos of that also.

Yes and be sure if you do happen to power it up, to have a speaker load connected to it. Failure to do that may damage the output transformer and or tubes.

If that is a SSS then it will outprice an ODS...you may be looking in the $40,000+ range for the price of that amp head.
:P We'd love to see some hi-res pics :P

Do you know how to properly take the chassis out of the head-cab? If not we can gladly tell ya :)

If the cabs are original and are also Dumble cabs, the whole stack may bring well over $100k.

Maverick Music wants $85k for their ODS with 4x12.

I'd curious to see if pictures ever show up. I try and give folks the benefit of the doubt. AND the dates don't match up, a SSS in 69?, "hand painted"? we'll see. Sometimes I imagine HAD sitting back there setting up someone to mess with our heads, who knows. I know if I was sitting on 50 plus K I'd stay online.

Remember the Odyssey which showed up and fizzled in the for sale section?

What would be interesting would be to know how many and how fast the PMs came in................. "I'll help" I'll buy it" "don't trust anyone else" that would be funny.

The Dumble disease is like no other.
