high-plates skyliner (non-hrm) questions

Post by llemtt »

Altough low-plates skyliners and high-plates classics are well documented, I know almost nothing about high-plates skyliners.

Are there any around? (I think so...)

Are there any know by serial number?

Is there at least one well documented specimen?

Are they just low-plates skyliners with different plates and cathodes values? (I don't think so...)

Skyline retrofitting to older models always implied converting them to low-plates too?

any help on this subject is really appreciated
thanks

Correct me if I'm wrong on this, but I think most all of the 90's HRM's are high plate skyliner.

I'm no expert, but I remember reading quite awhile ago that this was not a Dumble configuration. He used high plates on HRM amps. The high plate non-HRM done by other folks.

Not true.

My Bludo Music Man is an exact replica of a real Dumble Brandon degooped. It is a non HRM high plate Skyline.

As I also mentioned above, the most famous grail Dumble is also a high plate Skyline....

So, not only do they exist, they arguably are the grail....

Do you mean the ultrasound tan? I have always thought it's a low-plates, but if you are talking RF main amp then it's no surprise to me...

Well I think that almost all early 80's ODS were classic eq (150k slope) and high-plates, then almost all of them were retrofitted with skyline eq and a few also got low-plates (think #124).

I am currently planning a classic high-plates build because I don't have any and my current skyline high-plates tentative sounds too bass heavy to me, but I would like also to give the latter another try because lacking infos lot of details were guessed at best.

What name do most folks most closely associate with "Dumble" tone?
Wife: How many amps do you need?

Mine ended up quite like the #94 schematic, and is my favorite iteration, so far. I don't know if the treble pots on these are supposed to be audio or linear, I went with audio - only because I like to turn knobs up.
