One more thing - make sure your output tubes will clear the speaker magnet.

The key here is to make sure the baffle hole is offset to the opposite side, away from the power tubes. I have a Mojotone Princeton reverb cab with the baffle cut this way. I guarentee any 12' speaker will fit.heisthl wrote:One more thing - make sure your output tubes will clear the speaker magnet.
That said, my little Princeton ODS is a non-reverb Princeton chassis, much smaller. I'd recommend using the Reverb chassis, more room and fits larger cabinets.
Also, I used the Allen oversized Princeton PT and a Deluxe Reverb OT. Lots more headroom.

Bob do you think that this circuit would work with the 6V6 cathode biased?
My PT doesn't have a bias winding and it also has a 5U4 rectifier.

Yes. Ground the bias point and connect both PT cathodes to a BIG 250 ohm resistor bypassed with a 25u/50v cap. It'll bloom quite nicely.Structo wrote:Bob do you think that this circuit would work with the 6V6 cathode biased?

Re: Princeton ODS? Threads? Advice? First D build
Just tab the bias off of one of the HVAC. Replace the 5U4 with SS full wave and use the empty hole for a can cap.Structo wrote:Bob do you think that this circuit would work with the 6V6 cathode biased?

25W bias resistor big enough?

A word of caution:
I don´t own the Altec anymore, but I remember it would not fit sometimes where the EV would, so it might be a good idea to get the exact dimensions Marcos

Re: Princeton ODS? Threads? Advice? First D build
Thank you Marcos. I just made a related post in the other Princeton ODS thread!
Heistl, I did some preliminary actual fitting up in my combo cab last nite. The Bassman PT fits fine so long as I locate it so it doesn't impinge on the cabinet and I have marked the chassis so it won't. The OT remains probematic but at worst I might have to cantilever it back off the back of the chassis 1/2" or so with a couple of L-brackets to the rear chassis apron.
I have not checked the tubes overhang yet, good point. I have a pair of '60 RCA blackplates from an old Conn organ, they are the long glass so I had better do that!
Bob, I am using the reverb size chassis so there is a good bit more length there, it's the width that is confining of course. My cabinet has the offset 12" hole so I have a good chance of making it all fit. Without that I agree, no chance.

Plenty big enough. I think I used a 10w in mine.Structo wrote:25W bias resistor big enough?
BOM???
Cool, I haven't followed up on this thread in a few days because of my sag quest... Different post.
Does anyone have a BOM for the princeton ODS? or similar lower wattage OTS? I'm thinking I'd like to build a small amp I could throw a mic in front of that won't take up much space in my car. I dig the Red Plate size amps, although the knobs are sort of hokey for me. Even if it's a 50w I'll probably throw a 10" in it and go.
 Even if it's a 50w I'll probably throw a 10" in it and go.
Something I'm also wondering about is those big booming cleans. I really dig how two-rocks clean sound is, esp the jet. I see everyone say they are D clones. Is there a trick to getting that?
What makes the cleans so big sounding in these amps? My Ceriatone HRM BM has the same thing happening to a lesser degree (probably my fault it's not more so). Harmonics rich cleans. Is it something about the tone stack. I read somewhere HAD put a lot of voltage through the stack which contributed to that "magic." I might be remembering incorrectly.
I'm also looking for the smoothest/creamiest OD possible. The almost clean OD. Mayer gets it. (No I don't want to be mayer or sound like him... Just looking for that characteristic )
 )
I want to build a pedal killer. Two channels, footswitchable with a boost footswitch. Is it possible to place the boost in the preamp so that the drive and volume get a touch of boost?
Can anyone suggest a layout that will get me in the ballpark of this amp? I basically need a BOM and a layout. This will be my first non-tweed build. I'm ready to learn.

RedPlateAmplifiers gets tones and sounds you describe in a nice small package.
If your looking to build one then Henry has shared a lot of his talent in old posts with layouts use the search button.

Re: BOM???
There's some BOM's in the files section but I don't think there's a specific one on the Princeton sized amp, you'll have to take one and modify it based on these threads.cdc3jj wrote:Does anyone have a BOM for the princeton ODS? or similar lower wattage OTS? As for the 10" speaker, I've tried many and never was satisfied with the results. You can squeeze a 12" into a Princeton reverb combo cabinet and make a great trunk amp. I have a Princeton clone (not dumbleized) that I carry around. One hand amp, gig bag across the back with wires stuffed in the gig bag. Very portable.
