I turned my princeton into one. It's light as a feather compared to my "real" one.paisley_tele wrote:is there any way to make a 15 watt duble. i was looking at a fender blues jr but it would be cool to find a 15 wattish dumble shounding clean amp with adjustable od
PR OD
Any chance you have a schematic, photos and/or sound clips? Or can share what PT and OT you used? Was it a PR PT & OT?I turned my princeton into one. It's light as a feather compared to my "real" one.
I'd be very interested in some more info on what you did.
I would think maybe a BrownNote D'Lite with VVR would get you there?

Oh yea!! 15 watt Dumble is awesome. Like bcook said it's light and airy but still Dumble all the way.
I took a Princeton chassis and squeezed in a high plate non-hrm. The xformers are Princeton and so is the secondry filters. I put a 50/50 can cap for the primary filter.
Here's the important stuff..
I don't remember what speaker I was using on this clip, but it might be a Red White and Blues.

Here's the layout, I havent' checked it for accuracy so you should double check it against the ods101 layout in the files section. Since I drew this I added a loop using a stereo jack because of the limited space. Loop-send is the ring, loop-return the tip.

Re: PR OD
IMHO the VVR is best used in amps which distort the power amp. One of the keys to a great sounding Dumble is a clean power amp so I don't think this is really a match.10thTx wrote:I would think maybe a BrownNote D'Lite with VVR would get you there?

My little Princeton/Dumble sounds great at all volumes. Put the master on about 9:00 and you have a great bedroom amp, turn it up to 3:00 and it screams. The 6v6's DO break up at that level but most of the grind is generated in the preamp.
Re: PR OD
I'll second that. In my case, I built it on the existing board. It's ugly but sounds fine. The power tubes are cathode biased, so I'd be surprised if it puts out 10 watts.Bob-I wrote:My little Princeton/Dumble sounds great at all volumes. Re: any way to get a 15 watt dumble
I just recently completed a 2-6V6 ODS. Sounds a lot like an ODS! The bottom end feels different, but that is to be expected. If anything this amp will likely cut in a mix even more than my 100W. Still tweaking, though.
Wife: How many amps do you need?
Me: Just one more...

Princeton OD conversion
Bob-I,
Thanks for the info and clip. Sounds really nice to me.
Good point about the VVR and clean power section. Having said that, I build (sort of) a cathode biased 5881 version of a D'Lite clean channel with 5879 overdrive instead of the 12AX7 triodes ......... and it has a VVR and I'm please with the tone.

Interesting build. That's what it's all about, making the amp yours.10thTx wrote:Bob-I,

22W Dumble
My favorite for playing at home is a 22W non-HRM using 6V6's for output tubes. Great sound, and best of all I can go into the bedroom and play without pissing the wife off! Attached is my BOM. Good luck, Richard
