I took my 3 channel amp to a 4 day weekend jam with 30 of my closest guitar playing friends. Of course we had some drummers, bass played and keyboard players mixed in there too, what a blast.
We had several other amps, A boogie .22, Triple Rectifier, Ceritone JTM45, Savage 6 watter, Ampeg Gemini, an O'Brian (Tim O'Brian came by for a jam too) and a few assorted cheepies.
After it was over I asked my friends to honestly evaluate my amp, here's some responses...
One guy who plays 2 handed tapping style only could not get any sound at all out of it, just not enough compression.
Another shreader/tapper type got some sweet tones but felt it was too "Bluesy" for him.
Several players had trouble with the control layout. No one seemed to understand that the normal side drives the OD side so all controls affect the sound. Some folks got frustrated and gave up, others simply left the controls where I'd set them and loved the feel and tone of the amp.
I had MANY complements on my tone, using my Edwards LP and especally using my friends Gold Top P-90 LP from the 70's. Amazing depth and mid complexity.
What was interesting is that many folks couldn't get the touch to produce the same tone I was able to produce. Others were able to spend a few minutes developing a touch for the amp and sounded great.
A big suprise for me was that we plugged the Dumble into the Recto 2x12 cab with V-30's, plugged in an Ibanez Gem and the sound was amazing. Even the shreader type players loved it. The Gem is a great instrument, not my style but it simply sounded amazing.
Here's a pic of the setup, Tim O'Brian on the left playing a beautiful ES-345, me on sax and a bunch of friends. Notice the really cool Dano Longhorn bass almost hidden in the back.
Just thought I'd share.

That sounds familiar...but you do get those knobs to nice spot.Bob-I wrote:Several players had trouble with the control layout. Exactly what I said in the Just One Complete Amp thread. Though, I think the ODS, at least when I played it at Greg's, seemed a bit more forgiving in the tone dept. It's a great amp...we raved about it afterwards.Bob-I wrote:What was interesting is that many folks couldn't get the touch to produce the same tone I was able to produce. The Dumble ckt seems to take a certian touch. When I first heard people say that I thought it meant a gentle touch, but that's not it at all. They're very touch sensitive, but you can really dig in.
My goal will be to simplify the control layout. I'm thinking of options, most likely ganged pots for the gain pots.
