How many ? Do you prefer the old ones ?

I'm a big fan of them (Pony and Cowtipper), even if I build some amps but I've not found the Super 100 to be that good.

And BTW why didn't you talk to Dumble directly ? I tried his last amps and to me the modded Fenders were a notch above the ODS I played (ok, it was a long time ago). It could be hard at first to reach him but I think he will be able to nail what you want to the T, and for less than your actual one.
At least he will understand your point.
The early EL34 Super 100s were GREAT. Nailed the tan Dumbles sounds. Neither I nor my buddies could tell them apart without looking when using a head switcher. The later ones were brunos take on Dumbles and not clones. The most recent one I played was a gain monster, and not to my liking at all.

I have no idea how to get in touch with Dumble, but of course I would LOVE to have him make an amp for me. No idea how to do it though, and I heard he was only modding Fenders. I would want an ODS.

mlp-mx6 wrote:Tag, I'm trying to understand what you are hoping to add to The Amp Garage.

I'm happy for you that you have a genuine Dumble ODS and that it is THE AMP TONE you've been hoping to find your whole life. But this is a forum for people who want to *build* an amp that has THE TONE. Are you ever going to add to *that* discussion?

I'm happy you have someone else building you an amp. I'm happy you like German sports cars. Neither of these things has anything to do with building your own amp. Do they belong on this forum?

From your clips you seem to be a good player. Are you an amp builder at all? Again - this is a builder's forum. I'm hoping you'll find a way to add constructively to this builder's forum. I haven't seen it yet. I haven't seen you even TRY.

What I have seen so far is either "taking without giving" (what tubes are best?) or "posturing and insulting" (never heard a clone as good as my Two Rocks), or "I'm not telling" (If you want to see the inside, buy one). From where I sit, none of these are adding anything of value.

You said earlier in this thread that you plan to share "some info I get on how to get these things RIGHT." Even that statement sounds like you plan to hold back. Posting clips is not adding value. Sharing part value/layout tips is adding value (as one example). I want to think you have value to add - I'm suggesting you start adding value. Find a way. Quickly. Take it as a challenge every bit as difficult as cloning THE TONE if you have to.
Have not started yet. 2 more weeks I think. The builder is coming here. Yes I will be giving, but holding back some info of course. Does every builder tell you EVERYTHING about what they are doing on here? Of course not. They are trying to make money with the knowledge they have, and the little secrets they do to make their amps sound better than the next guys.

Would it be that horrible Tag, if there were a hoard of folks wanting #183 clones, knowing that it is your amp? That would be a huge stroke of your ego, which it appears you enjoy immensely. Can't you just feel the power of people wanting a copy of YOUR Dumble? I can see it in your posts. You want your minions to bow down to the strainy, muffled, politician tones.

Seriously, how long before Two Rock starts selling a Tagland amp? #183 clones with your moniker on it.

ooh....the suspense is killing me.....

Yes, I am getting excited just THINKING of it! As a matter of fact, I just started stroking my huge "ego" thinking about it. HAHAHA!!

:D I can hardly stand the excitement!!! Tell me MORE!

They already do. The Emerald Pro. :P

All I want is a clone that sounds like my Dumble so I can sell mine in case the economy does not come back around.. :D Ideally, I can keep it and make GOOD money on it in 10 years or so. Not why I bought it, but nice none the less. :) As a matter of fact, some one here should buy it from me if this clone is a success. I would sell it for 65K, but to any member of this form, 75K. LOL!!!!

Say what you will about amps lad, but I hope you’re not slamming Clan McGregor’s! AY it’s not a fine 16 year old single malt, but it gets the job done.
:P
And it works well for de-gooping amp boards.

Lately I’m preferring the Highland Park 12 year old, which Craig Ferguson had recommended on his show to someone 6 months ago or so.

So what are you guy’s drinking these days?

Cheers All
Of course the McCallan as a stand by, I also love the OBAN, and when the mood strikes, nothing does it like the lagavulin. As of late I've been into the Stranahans Colorado whiskey, it's a more traditional American style whiskey, but it almost has a finish reminiscent of smokey peat like my favorite scotches!

AH! Mr 3 posts! I wonder who this is posting under a different user name? Brandon, is that you? Very similar to what you posted at TGP a while back. Sorry I find your amps so harsh in person. I am signing out now. To much arguing. I will sign in again when I have some news on how its going or something to contribute.
I didn't post anything at TGP, if you want to settle your beef in person

I have no problems saying that I think you are a HACK guitarist. It really doesn't matter what amp you have Tag, it's ALWAYS going to sound bad with you at the helm.. I'll stick to building amps for folks with grammy's and you can continue being a sad, sad, little wannabe.

I hope the porsche makes you feel better about your penis.

No, but it helps! Nothing worse than my girlfriend laughing at me every time we have sex. :(

(Did you really believe I just came back from a Porche dealer??) HAHAHA

And seriously, if that was NOT you Brandon, I honestly apologize. You DID post something very similar on TGP, which is what lead me to think it was you. Guitar playing wise, I honestly dont care what anyone thinks 99% of the time. I do it because it makes me feel good! :D AND, I think you play pretty well yourself! AND I do find your amps harsh. :(

NOW for some cool stuff! No LNFB on V1.

6ps series caps on the output tube grids.
