Noise problem - any idea ? (solved) (soundclip added)

Re: Noise problem - any idea ? (solved) (soundclip added)
Yes you need that artificial center tap or you'll get lots of AC noise.
Also, if you use a diode bridge for your relay supply connect a .1 poly cap from the - DC terminal to ground. This way you can still have a floating DC supply but without AC noise. You can not ground the bridge - terminal if your AC source is the 6.3v heater winding. If you use a separate transformer and don't connect the centertap then you can ground the - terminal.

Thanks alot !!! The mystic part here is that it was as silent earlier without those resistors
All Right ! No I put the relays back. COOOOOOL
Thanks again,
mat

Btw. Keithrick I also tried the trimmer in V2b grid and prefered 186K over 178K that was there earlier. I also changed the snubbers from 470,430 back to 330,330. Bit more clear to me. Someone mentioned that they should be different value to get harmonic richness to the sound. Have to experiment more, but first I gotta get this da*n footswitch to work
cheers,
mat

with diy 'Julia' guitar http://koti.welho.com/mtiilama/DIY%20Guitars.htm straight in to the amp (diy cab with 1x 12'' red, white and blues).
recorded with one diy mic + cheap audiotechnica mic into tb202 micpre (the cheapest) into PC (in cubase added reverb and delay + doubled the track).
The bandaid in my finger did mess the playing and feel...blah...blah..

Absolutely beautiful woodwork-the cabinet and guitars!!!!! Now since you learned how to build the ODS amp here, how about helping us learn to build the hardwood cab and guitars to match. If only I had the time.
BTW, the amp sounds very nice and really enjoyed your soulful playing. Thanks for sharing your amp and the luthier inspiration.

Re: Noise problem - any idea ? (solved) (soundclip added)
Thank You very much for the comments
That really was the first take and I do have a cut on my index finger (damn unsharp bread knife
). Also I could not put the master on higher level where it gives nicer overdrive.
I was surprised on the double stop spot. That is bacicly the sound I'm after. In future I would like to mod the amp on that direction. Also would be very nice to have feedback coming out easier from the amp. All in all I'm very happy with the clone
As for the woodworking. I did the flamed birch cabinet (http://koti.welho.com/mtiilama/) by hand. Measure and then drawed the cuts. No routers, no jigs. I used Chinese style knive-saw and wood files. That was a lots of work..But I love the smell of fresh sanded wood
Thanks alot fellows,

Great clip Mat....
Try raising the CL2 bypass cap to 10uf. Then, lower the snubs to 270pf. Try recording using deep and bright off and rock on. Maybe add a 5-10pf bright cap on the master to balance the bass. Amp should feedback at will!!

I basicly follow every tip You give to the forum
I'm going away for two weeks tomorrow evening. Hope to catch the forum somewhere on the road. 2 weeks without my clone
Happy tweaking all,

Btw. I was told today someone who has built loads of tube amps that 'Don't tweak new amp! It might take 2 months to it to get the final tone..' Hmm.. something to consider about..
Hello, my name is mat and I'm a tweakoholic. My last tweak was... lets see.. -'Hey! whats that smell! Is that solder fumes'..

I'm thinking the same thing now. My HRM/Peavey rebuild is changing tone daily, sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse. I'm finding the OD to be a little harsh right now, maybe a tweak or 2 is needed, but I think I'll wait and see what happens.mat wrote:Btw.
