Ange,

He was on Good Morning America" yesterday morning and it appeared that he had a set of VOX amps on top of a couple Doctor Z's. The Wrecks were not visable to me.

In the latest Premier Guitar magazine there is an interview with Brad Paisley.

Yes, that is his real last name.

He said he really liked the tone of the AC30's and his telecasters.
But the VOX amps just don't hold up to touring abuse.

So he uses the Dr. Z amps and of course his Trainwreck Express, although he didn't mention that amp in the interview which I thought was weird.

He changes amps so often is nuts, But he also uses Bruno amps, Vox, Zwreck, Trainwreck, and Dr Z. The amps were probably behind them off stage.

I have to wonder why he doesn't just go with Matchless.

This post is from Z-talk:

When I saw this thread, I called Chad today (Brad's guitar and amp tech) and he gave me the straight scoop, and permission to pass it along to you guys. It not really a secret, but a lot of artists do try to protect "their" sound.

Chad said, that the only time he's ever set the amps offstage, was at the White House. He never turns Brad's amps down or uses an overdrive pedal to make up for lost gain. He always turns the amps up to where they're supposed to be, and 9 times out of 10, he gets asked if they can turn down, and the answer is always no. Of course, everyone here knows that an amp has a sweet spot, and Chad and Brad use that sweet spot for his distinctive sound.

As for the Letterman Show, Brad's Tele went straight through his wireless, into an Aqua Puss delay, to the amp, then into the cabinet. That's it!

He also said that they've been using a Wampler analog echo a lot lately.

Cool post Mark, thanks for sharing that. Do you know if Brad is running in stereo or switching between multiple amps? I read a interview (March 2009 Guitar Player) in which Brad states "When you hear any kind of distorted sound, it's the Trainwreck Liverpool 30. Turn that amp up anywhere past 11 o'clock and it's dirty." He also says, (as you have affirmed), that "...if you are hearing a clean sound, it's probably just a [Vox] AC30-type EL84-based amp such as a Dr. Z or a Tony Bruno with an analog delay pedal - usually a Way Huge Aqua-Puss-plugged right into the front of it."

Dave,

He is always running more than one amp at a time. There has been so many interviews plus his tech notes on Z-talk and other places it changes all the time but definitely more than one amp at any given time.
