New 1x12 cab

Post by Sonny ReVerb »

Here's my new 1x12 cab. It's got a bit of an identity crisis - very MarFenDum-ish. The front leans back an 1" from bottom to top like a Deluxe. It's got a Jensen C12PS Special Design speaker. The cab string and grill cloth are similar to a JTM. And, I gave it an oval port, of course. The dimensions are 18h x 23w x 10.25-11.25d.

I tried it out a bit yesterday. It sounds very good, so far.

I like it. The back looks like a face with whiskers. :) Did you build it yourself? Pine or Ply?

One of these days I gotta try build my own cab. Been debating if I should do it myself or just have someone else build it for me.

Good job. What did you use for the cab string and where did you get it.

Thanks. I built it myself. It's 3/4" pine with 3/8" box joints. The front and rear baffles are 1/2" birch ply (that 'Chinese' stuff from Lowe's).

The cab string is from Mojo. I also got some of the tolex, the grill cloth, and jack plates there. The feet, handles, and wire were from BLTSound.

That is at least as good as some cabinets I've bought and better than most! That's real good workmanship!

I say we have that cab shipped around so we can all test it and check it out while your working on that D'lite amp :)

I can see the orders for you to start building speaker cabs coming in.

Is the black paint on the inside serving any non-aesthetic purpose?

No, I just thought it looked better with the dark covering. It does hide some of the wood filler I used where there was some tear-out behind the finger joints.
