How to make your OD harsh no matter what

Post by jurgen »

Apparently dumb and intermittantly smart are the same thing :oops:

My Dlite 44 came out pretty well:
virually no hiss,hum, switching noise, or RF,
beautiful cleans,
and very nice saturation in the output section when pushed.
(this last may not be, strictly speaking, pure D... dunno but I liked it)

Sadly the OD has sounded just plain ratty from day one. I've been through it all;
the AG tweeks, vintage tubes, verified voltages, guitar lessons.

I was starting to think maybe i needed to add the goop(yeah thats the ticket)
when I realized I had the OD cathode leads reversed.:x

Sooo... for broken chainsaw overdrive on single notes(power chords were kind of OK)
try 220/2k2 150/3K3 :roll: Or if for some reason, you actualy like a rich buttery lead tone,
you could follow the layout. :lol:
A guitar should never sound like a bee, a duck or, a chainsaw (well sometimes a chainsaw is alright )

I think you gave up too early. With a little more tweaking I'm sure you could have pushed the power chords into glorious over-revved two-stroke territory too. Talk about a sleeper - you set up a D clone in the jazz-fusion club for a gig, people sit back smiling expecting rich harmonics and... POW right in the kisser. OH YEAH!

Really though, it's great that your perseverance paid off and that you didn't throw it to the bone yard as a lost cause! Glad to hear it turned out well in the end!
