would just like to ask for a few suggestions for an amp using the deluxe reverb transformers I have lying around.I,ve already built a bluesmaster HRM , a high plate and a 100k skyliner [all 100w]
I,ve read a few posts saying that dumble circuits dont really like 6v6,s - so should I forget about trying to build a dumble style amp and just keep it as a deluxe ?I,m going to build this one to put in a small 1x12 combo [ my backs not what it was !]
any help greatly appreciated thanks,
phil

Phil, You might just as well use 6L6 with smaller and lighter transformers. You could go for a smaller PT delivering 350 rectified Volts on the Anodes, giving you around 25 watt and demanding a smaller OT as well.phillyhudson wrote:would just like to ask for a few suggestions for an amp using the deluxe reverb transformers I have lying around.I,ve already built a bluesmaster HRM , a high plate and a 100k skyliner [all 100w]

IMHO a dumble design likes a clean poweramp, so 6v6s might muddy things up a bit. However, a transistor power amp might also se3rve you needs as long as you build the preamp with tubes.

I am not as experienced with the Dumble amps, but I really like my 6V6 D'Lite 22. It may not be a "true" Dumble circuit but it sounds great to me. I have no use for a 100 watt amp.

Ditto! I have build an OTS kit from Ceriatone. And after a burn in period and some tweaking - with input and help from the guys at this forum - I've arrived at a tone, that I find satisfying.brewdude wrote:I am not as experienced with the Dumble amps, but I really like my 6V6 D'Lite 22. Being 45 sommers old, I don't have the need for 100 watts. My amp is a 50 watt and I guess a 22 watts would also suit my needs fine. Plus the lower weight would really be appreciated

Re: deluxe reverb transformers-which build ?
thanks for replys - I could use different transformers for 2 6l6's but then I'd have to buy them ! I,ve tried putting a dumble overdrive and hrm tone stack after a basic carlsbro 50 top pre amp with great results so I might just try doing that with a basic fender circuit.
thanks for replys - this forum's been amazingly helpful for me with my builds !

Re: deluxe reverb transformers-which build ?
phillyhudson,
After having built a high plate non HRM and a Bluesmaster (both 100W) like yourself, I've just finished a 6W SE amp with a Champ like power amp and it is a very fun amp to play. Admittedly it hasn't got the 'girth' or headroom of the 100W, but it does have a number of D type characteristics that I imagine it will be pretty nice for recording, practice and possible micro gigs
.
My advice would be to go for it. The worst case scenario would be that if you don't like it, you could then mod it into a deluxe that has an overdrive channel (for better or for worse). Or if the Deluxe iron doesn't cut it, buy some bassman iron in the future.
Cheers, Paul.

Re: deluxe reverb transformers-which build ?
I turned a mangled SF Princeton Reverb into what is essentially a BM, sounds really good and is plenty loud. It uses BF Deluxe Reverb iron from MM. I had to tweak to get tone where I like it, but that's always where the magic is. I ended up with 100k V1 and 220k/150k V2. Reverb is close to the single tube seen before on the forum. It does get a little crunchy tuned up really loud, but no complaints. The amp is very portable.
Instead of the full HRM stack, I used a 350K tapped treble pot (from Vibroverb 6G16) as the entire stack, mounted on the back. It has the slope, mid & bass caps flying off the pot, a 22k fixed mid to ground. The tap works out to be a fixed 70k bass pot. Looks scary, but very compact. Presence lives where ground switch was.
Speaker is currently a GL65-12 Heritage, subject to change. I've used NOS Pope (favorite), Brimar and GE 6V6s, at about 435-440v.
Good luck, Max

Here is a 2 6V amp.... a loud 22 watts..If you are going to do a 22 watter with the Deluxe transformers I recommend doing an HRM
